Samsung Galaxy S9's photographic prowess teased with a trio of videos

Having used a similar approach for the launch of last year’s Galaxy Note 8, Samsung has today released a handful of new teaser videos for the Galaxy S9 and S9 Plus on its South Korean YouTube channel, with the short flicks focusing on the photographic capabilities of the upcoming flagship handsets.

In the first of three videos, each lasting only 15 seconds, Samsung fires off a series of fast-moving, rapidly-edited action shots featuring a skateboarder, a roller-coaster, a wingsuit pilot and more.

At the end of the video, a large ‘9’ logo appears over the screen (a visual motif that Samsung has been using with some frequency in the lead up to the S9’s unveiling), with the wingsuit footage instantly going into super slow motion, suggesting that the S9’s camera will be able pull off a similar effect.

In the second video, Samsung shows us a series of night-time scenarios, eventually ending on a shot of a deer standing in the dark while facing the camera.

The 9 logo appears once again, with the center of the number brightening up significantly to give a much clearer look at the deer and its surroundings.

We think it’s safe to assume that the video is hinting at the Galaxy S9’s low-light photography smarts.

In the third and final teaser, a fun-loving dude is shown pulling a number of expressive faces across a series of situations. Right at the end, the familiar number 9 logo appears over the man’s face and turns it into an animated cartoon version.

We’ve heard about the Galaxy S9’s apparent Animoji-like features before, and this final teaser goes a long way to legitimizing that particular rumor.

Of course, it’s all admittedly guesswork when it comes to ascertaining exactly what the videos show — none of these features have been officially confirmed by Samsung yet.

Still, we think the South Korean electronics giant is being pretty clear about what we can expect from the Galaxy S9 and S9 Plus’ cameras. We’ll know for sure when the phones are unveiled at Mobile World Congress on February 25, 2018.

*URGENT* Report back from strike in Texas, week 2

“Today, September 17, I visited the Alfred Hughes Unit in Gatesville, TX to visit a friend. While I was waiting for them to be brought to the visitation booth, a woman sitting next to me mentioned inmates at this unit being retaliated against. She was visiting a woman from Hobby, who had been transferred to the medical building at Hughes due to overpopulation. I asked if I could join the conversation and ask some questions. The incarcerated woman explained that she overheard on a guards radio that inmates in building 8 were striking. She later learned that these inmates had rigged their doors to open at the the same time for the nationwide strike. Guards in riot gear showed up and blasted tear gas and physically retrained and assaulted several inmates. The visitor pointed out a latino family she overheard talking about the strike as well. I approached them and with their permission, got on the phone with their loved one who only wanted to talk briefly and didn’t have a lot of details to share, but did confirm that building 8 went on strike and were brutalized by guards as a result. Finally, my friend showed up for our visit. They also confirmed all of this information, including the use of pellet guns.. They also said that they overheard on a radio that 13 units were on lockdown. They said that a notice had been posted to all inmates that told them any information on the strike was forbidden and would be denied.” - As told by a member of our collective, Austin Anarchist Black Cross "Okay, so Jonathan has said that on Friday they were told if anyone is to laydown they would have G4. No one on his block did the work strike except for him and his friend. He still continues to strike. He feels that there is something going on with him that he doesn't know about, because he hasn't received any repercussions. He wants to thank y'all for trying to send him letters, because he feels like that is the reason why." - As told by a woman whose brother is housed at the Estelle Unit 9/18/2016 To all Families, Friends or Loved Ones of People Incarcerated in TDCJ, Above are just two of many stories of resistance since the start of the Nationwide Prison Strike on September 9th, 2016. We are waiting to hear back from contacts in other units but due to continuing lockdowns and censorship word is coming slowly. Through calling units to see if retaliation is happening, we learned that there was/is a lockdown, and/or a partial lockdown, or many inmates are on suspension in the following 10 units (see below). We have little information other than this, and fear that the state is trying to cover up retaliation. We sense that resistance is happening, and these stories need to be told. We are here to act as facilitators to make sure that information is spread to media contacts, loved ones, and fellow organizers. If you have any information that you feel comfortable sharing with us, please let us know. What is the current state of resistance? How many people are/were involved? How are inmates feeling at this point? Has any retaliation happened? Have you been denied communication with a loved one? Are you willing to speak with media?
