Most couples obviously have shared interests, since they’re an easy way to get to know someone and bond with them. Kathamy’s shared interests, though, are much more than that. Their interests mostly consist of the things they enjoyed in their childhood and early teens. It’s not that they just happen to have this in common, it’s that they discovered and learned to love these things together.
For Amy especially this is true, because it was most likely thanks to Katherine that she was able to enjoy girly things as a kid. We already know, for instance, that Katherine would put headbands on her, and most likely other accessories too. So, her consumption of kids’ media aimed at girls was probably thanks to Katherine as well. Katherine, on the other hand, owes her love of swimming to Amy. The only reason she picked it up, after all, was to accompany Amy while she would go surfing.
Even when something only clicks with one of them, the other will still give it a try. Amy may not be a huge fan of baking, but she still helps out Katherine. Katherine may not care for some of Amy’s shows, but she’ll catch some episodes anyway. Their interests are special to them. It’s not just because they enjoy them, but because they enjoy the company too.
Miss “the economy” herself
Amy, setting down a card: Ace of spades.
Emilie, laying down another: Plus four.
Katherine, doing the same: Pikachu, I choose you.
Claire, trembling: What are we playing-
Katherine: When I was a kid, Amy told me that the paper strips in chocolate kisses were edible, and I ate them with the chocolate, for, like, a year.
Amy: They are!
Katherine: Wait, for real?
Amy: Why would you believe that again?
