A Public Transportation Driver Harrassed Me - Sexual Assault Awareness Years ago, when I was sixteen. I had just finished writing an exam. I think it was chemistry. One of my not so favourite subjects, and it rained that day. Then I lived at Nsukka, Enugu State, and it was difficult to find any transportation home. After waiting for what felt like hours, a bike man finally came my direction. While I spoke with him, I noticed his eyes on my legs, which made me super uncomfortable. But I was tired, and I preferred not to wait any longer after being lucky to find one. Moreover, why will a man stare at my legs? I shrugged it off, against the warnings in my head not to enter. While he drove, he kept looking down at himself and adjusting his trousers. At a point, I wanted to yell at him to focus on the road, but I resolved to pray in my head, so I won't die in an accident due to his lack of concentration. He took a different route from the usual one, but I knew that road too. It was absurd, since the road was worse than the other, it would be more swampy. I shrugged the alarm in my head again, saying to myself that there was no way I'd get lost in Nsukka, or he'd kidnap me. It was my confidence for me. He informed me that Road Safety Officers were ahead, and he wasn't with his helmet. Why did he take the road, knowing that Road Safety Officers were ahead? And why did he not bring his helmet? The alarm in my head screeched louder when he took a road I wasn't familiar with. There was something I often did and still do. It's to be extremely calm when I feel scared. Don't talk or talk slow if I have to because I believe that if one can sense my fear, they'll use it against me. Worst-case scenarios played in my head. I was just being paranoid. It was another cut home. I shushed myself and remained silent. At a point, there were two diverging roads, ahead of one were houses while the other was lonely and filled with trees and tall grasses. He took the latter and brought me to a dead end.
