Still/ the neva flows reprise except it's sabo and Luffy
heres the song for ref:
“Sabo.”
There's a man holding a gun to Luffy’s chest, resting just above the scar aside his heart.
Luffy isn’t moving, standing still as stone as the man continues to hold the gun to his heart, continuing to stare as Sabo speaks.
“Laughtale is no place for a child of Goa.” It’s a strange thing for Sabo to bring up right now, right that they’re so close, but Luffy can hear the anger in his voice. Can remember the screams and the fire that nearly buried him whole.
“We are both children of Goa.” He’s just a child being scolded by his brother, just a kid looking for approval he’ll never find—
“I’ve come to take you home.”
“My home is here.” His home is on the sea, free to do as he wished, free to live and do more than just fight. His home is with his crew and with his brothers.
“Stop playing this game Luffy.” The gun moves slightly to the side as Sabo leans back, hand running through pale hair. His eyes flick up for only a moment before meeting Luffy’s again. “Please.”
“We both know this is not a game.” Luffy hates the look on Sabo’s face, annoyance and desperation and things his– Sabo should never show. It’s not–
“If you really are Nika or Joyboy, then do you really think history wanted you to live?” It’s a twisted mockery of what Ace asked all those years ago, do you want me to live? Except it’s Sabo asking him why Luffy should be alive, except it’s Sabo destroying every little bit of Ace and their brotherhood that Luffy has left.
“Yes,” he answers, hands by his side balling into fists. “Why don’t you!?”
“The gods were given everything and gave back nothing until the common people rose up and destroyed them!”
“All but one.” Luffy sets his shoulders back. “Finish it.”
Looking up at Sabo he glares. “I am my own person.”
“And I am doing this for the greater good!” Sabo’s eyes blaze, reflecting the flames that momentarily take home on Sabo’s arms.
The safety clicks off.
“Finish this I will.” Sabo grits his jaw.
“Dragon told me not to ask about your mother.” He tells Luffy as if that means anything. “He said she died a shame.”
“You look at me and see Ace.” Luffy scowled. “So then look at me and imagine Ace screams and see his face of betrayal! See his terror, see his blood!”
Sabo’s going to kill him. His own brother is going to kill him—
“I believe Dragon did a proud and vital task, and in my leader's name–” It’s always about his father, always about his grandfather, always about Sabo and Ace but never about Luffy.
If he is to be executed it should be by Sabo and because he is Luffy not because—
“Do it and I will be with Ace in Marineford all over again!”
“The children—their voices— a man makes painful choices–” he closes his eyes and Luffy hates- “He does what's necessary Luffy!”
Sabo opens his eyes staring into his eyes again. “For the world, for the people, what choice but simple duty–”
Luffy feels his chest stutter as his eyes burn. His brother is going to kill him.
“—We have the past to bury Luffy!” When had Luffy become part of that past?
Drums sound around him and he feels more free than he ever has, he doesn’t—
“Luffy,” Voices call to him–”Captain!” they scream–”Strawhat” they cry!
Sabo’s expression flutters and anger crosses his face, and Luffy is that lonely seven year old boy again.
“Soon the world will be free! When the morning rises the gods lie cold–”
When was Luffy anything but himself? When was he anything but the crybaby that two desperate boys took in as their brother—
“Be careful what a dream will bring. A revolution is a simple thing.”
The gun fires off.
