PRIORI ft. SABOLA // LEARN TO FLY [THIS BUT MORE 12", MAY 2024]
So things we learn in polls if we take them as representative:
SanUso is more popular than SanLu (very surprising to me, although I like either ship), [That poll is ongoing, btw]. (Had UsoLu before.Oops!).
SanLaw is 0.6% more popular than ZoLaw (the percentages count!). Again, I like either ship, but had thought ZoLaw was more popular.
And, that the number of fan works is not an indicator of ship popularity. That’s logical, but as a creator, and as an enjoyer of fan works, I guess I thought they were a bigger indicator of a ship’s popularity than they are, although there are a lot of factors at play of course.
The number iof LawSan fics, from different writers, has really increased over the last year, btw, and I’m assuming SanUso fics are on the rise against SanLu 🤷♂️
But yeah, as said, fan content doesn’t necessarily indicate fan faves (more creator faves, perhaps?). The other really close poll is Noland/Kalgara vs Saboala. Not much fan work (in comparison) exists of the former, but the voter’s heart wants what the voter’s heart wants. (That poll is still open too).
Also, sometimes it’s very hard for creative content to get a look-see on this site, and possibly the results of the polls kinda tie into that? Like possibly the majority of folks who want op fanart or fanfic etc. populate other sites. I find that a screencap of an episode can do a 1000 times better than a reblog of fanart. Meta too (although not always). [I leave out fanfiction, cos we all know how that goes!]
Just musing.

wherein sabo loses his head feat. marco and law (fanfic excerpt–happy birthday koala)
It’s Koala’s birthday for another few hours, so here’s a wee excerpt from a longer fic where Sabo and Koala are meeting up with Law and Marco. It’s a post-canon world where some of the older slavery practices were never repealed. Law gets caught up in it. The Revolutionaries and others look to fight it. This is G-rated, but it’s from a very dark fic which isn’t, so no link. This is light though.

"This was your idea, right?" Marco asked Law, sweating a little in the controlled environment despite being used to the general humid air of the island.
"They're cute," Law shrugged, though he didn't wander over to pat one.
Marco spread out on the lawn, staring at the sky, head on Law's lap. The surgeon had woven long grass into a loose crown and placed it on Marco's head. They could pretend. Law's weaving and paper skills helped hone surgical dexterity, as did the crewel work and quieter embroidery that decorated his clothes. Despite his domestic skills, cute wasn't a word that sat well with him.
"What are we doing in the koala enclosure?"
"If they're looking to cage me, they'll never look for me in a cage."
"Hah." There was a logic to it. The enclosure was open plan, a bit like their now desecrated house. Vegetation indigenous to the marsupials' original environment crackled with the scent of eucalyptus.
It was peaceful in the sun, Law's doctor's hands tweaking a clump of his hair here and there. Oh, he knew how to apply pain with precision, but also its opposite. When the doctor was in the house the sadist remained in the cellar.

"Your idea of a joke, Trafalgar? Arranging to meet Koala and me here?"
You had to watch Law. You never knew if he was waving at you or in the process of removing a body part.
"Noo, you creepy surgeon."
Obviously the latter. Sabo's head now rested on Marco's chest, Marco still lying against Law's thighs.
"No, not a joke," Law said.
The damn bastard couldn't be any more smug.
"But this is." Law maintained the room of course. He didn't want Sabo to be permanently separated from his body. "Thanks for meeting us, Sabo-ya." Plus, yeah, he had thought it was kinda funny to meet them here. Where was Koala?
"Marco," Sabo said, peering down at the Whitebeard's face, looking up his nostrils. "You really should invest in a hair trimmer."
Marco lifted a hand in greeting. "Law says that all the time." Sabo's top hat remained securely in place.
Sabola, the Second Acolyte
Sabola’s life is one racked with hardship. From an early age, she has roamed the desert, seeking some sort of respite from the pain and suffering of the world around her. Sabola began her life as the daughter of a priest and a musician, both of whom still followed the ways of the Old Empire and worshiped the Sun. Sabola’s father taught her of their religion, and of how the Sun watched over them and offered prosperity. Her mother sang songs of the glory of Shurima before the days of its fall, spreading the word of the Sun and its Ascended Heroes through songs passed down through generations. Sabola herself grew to admire the Sun which her parents revered so much... Until a mysterious illness swept through her home, killing dozens, including her parents.
Watching her mother and father slowly perish before her, Sabola fled her home and forsake the Sun which her parents revered, believing that the tales of prosperity it offered them were nothing but a fabrication. Traveling the desert, she eventually came to settle in the city of Nashramae, where she took up odd jobs in the marketplace. There, she heard tales about an elusive being named Rammus, who had inspired an elderly mason many years ago to construct the large market. Sabola grew intrigued by these tales, and eventually sought to meet the armordillo, whom many revered as an ancient deity and protector. Though skeptical, Sabola joined a small expedition to venture out and find the elusive Rammus, hoping to discover the truth behind this so-called ‘god.’
Unfortunately, the expedition failed, as nearly everyone partaking in it was slaughtered by Outerbeasts that ambushed them from the sands. The only survivors were Sabola and an older woman who had used a set of magic pendants to try and ward of the creatures. Sabola, though grateful to the woman, believed that this was a sign that their search had been in vain; that the Rammus was a fabrication, just like the Sun of old. The girl, having been abandoned by the gods twice now, forsake religion and asked to be taken under the elder woman’s wing. She spent the next few years of her life in Nerimazeth, studying magical charms. She decided that if no god could protect the people of the desert, then she would give them the power to protect themselves.
Then, one day, everything changed; the ancient Ascended of Shurima returned. Sabola will never forget the day that Xerath came to Nerimazeth, taking charge of the whole city almost instantly. At first, everyone feared him, herself included. Sabola loathed the being who called himself their new god, knowing full-well that deities were prone to disappointment... But as time passed, Xerath succeeded in both stopping bandit raids on the city, as well as culling outbreaks of Outerbeasts. The Magus Ascendant, though a harsh and ruthless leader, proved to accomplish that which the Sun and the Armordillo could not.
After the Magus recruited Matehp, Sabola soon chose to join the Ascendant. She stepped forth and demonstrated her talent for charms. Though initially unimpressed, Xerath ultimately decided to acknowledge her as the second of his religious followers. Sabola still has many doubts about the Magus, but as his empire grows, she acknowledges one thing: that he may be the only god Shurima will ever truly have...
