This is not how things were supposed to be. Coven members were not supposed to be dropping like flies, she was not supposed to be performing spells that had been outlawed years ago, and she was most certainly not supposed to be doubting all that the elders had ever told her. So why was it that was exactly what Sabrina was doing? Not only was she questioning the choices the elders made, she was questioning everything she did as well. She knew that she was doing a completely horrid job at this elder stuff, and she knew that every death was on her. Of course people would disagree, say that there was nothing should could have done. But that was not true. She should have done more to protect the coven from the very second she found out about the hunters. But no, instead she had just freaked out and blurted it out to everyone.
That had lead to chaos, and now so many things were jumbled. Everyone was on edge at all times, awaiting an attack. Spells and potions were popping out every second of every hour. It was all around chaos among the coven, and Sabrina had a serious feeling this was exactly what the hunters wanted. The girl thought, though, that this wake would hopefully bring them all to their senses. Let them really see what lies ahead if they do not stop freaking out and begin working together for the safety of the coven. But alas, that would not happen. So that left the girl with very few choices. She could always leave things as they were, and hide in her room until the elders came home. But if she were to do that, she would not be Sabrina Nevian. So that left her with the choice of allowing Olive to sniff around the coven for that familiar scent, or time traveling to go back and pinpoint the killer herself. Either one was dangerous, though Sabrina would gladly go along with her plan before Olive’s. Putting her friend in danger was the absolute last things that Sabrina wanted to do.
A small part of her, the part she kept hidden deep down within her, was terrified and wanted to just give up on everything. She wanted to just curl up and hide from her responsibilities, and forget about whoever dies next. But she couldn’t. There was no way she was going to let the coven down in such a manor. She had a reputation and a responsibility to uphold. And so that is why she was dragging herself out of bed after not even two hours of sleep. She slipped on a simple black dress, and painted on her make up. Once she looked presentable, the witch walked downstairs to where the ceremony would be held. The room was already filling up with people paying their respects, and Sabrina recognized many faces around the room. There were a few she did not, and the girl made a special note to remind Olive to sniff around them first. Just to be safe.
As the ceremony went on and people began to say their speeches remembering the dead, the brunette could not prevent herself from tearing up. It was not at the words being spoken, but it was just at the thought that these innocent witches and warlocks had been killed for no reason. They had done nothing, and yet they were murdered horrifically. It was beyond her comprehension how someone could do something like rip out another person’s heart. Only when she truly thought about it did Sabrina realize that statement was false. She knew exactly how someone could do that. It was possible to hate one single thing so much that you would cause any amount of harm possible to them. That was what she felt towards the hunters. A part of her wanted to torture them all for what they did to her coven. While the other part just wanted their deaths to be quick. Either way, the hunters would die. There was no way they could keep on living after what they had done.
As the ceremony went on Sabrina noticed many were slipping out quietly, whether to mourn on their own or just to get away from all the sadness she did not know. With a glance around the room, she decided to join those people and head back up to her room. The girl needed a break, and she figured it was high time she took one. She had been going nonstop for so long that she could hardly see straight. The one thing that kept her standing was her determination not to let anyone else in her coven get hurt. That was the one thing that kept her fighting for now. The love she felt for the coven as a whole, as well as for the individual people drove her like no other force ever had. And in her heart, Sabrina knew that as long as she lived nothing bad would happen to anyone in this coven again.
As she made it to her bedroom, she noticed something strange. The door was slightly ajar. This would not have been so unusual had she not been absolutely sure to lock it before leaving. Swallowing, the girl pushed open the door. As she took a tentative step forward she noticed a figure in the corner of her room. “Who’re you?” She eyed the intruder carefully, fear creeping into her belly. The intruder only smirked, “You don’t really need to ask that. Now do you?” Sabrina’s eyes narrowed, her fists clenching at her sides. “You’re one of them.” For a split second she thought about fleeing, yelling for help. But she couldn’t. Not without endangering someone else or getting herself killed in the process. Her eyes darted about the room, looking for any sort of weapon. She’d had a carving knife out on her desk that she’d used to cut up the skull of a rat for an old potion she made a few hours ago, but the blade was gone. And the girl had a dreadful suspicion of where it might be. “Looking for this?” Sure enough, the hunter held the knife in their hands, waving it about carelessly.
“Now I don’t think you’ll be the one needing this.” The hunter walked forward slowly. “You know, I wasn’t going to do this now. I was gonna wait, kill off a few more of your precious little coven until you were so unstable you couldn’t move. You have no idea how close I came to gutting that little Phoenix bitch. Her voice is just the most annoying thing I’ve ever heard. Besides you and your never ending stream of whines.” Rolling their eyes the hunter stalked forward even more. But Sabrina didn’t move an inch. Her anger kept her rooted to the spot, ready to fight if the need arose. “Don’t. Talk. About. Her. Like. That.” She gritted her teeth, glaring at the hunter who now stood directly in front of her. Her hand flew up and slapped the huntress before Sabrina even knew what she was doing. This only caused a chuckle to fall from her opponent’s mouth.
“Wow. You are pathetic.” With that the hunter brought the knife up,driving it deep into Sabrina’s throat. The pain was immense, and Sabrina had never felt anything like that before. Her powers began working immediately, the skin of her neck glowing bright blue. The surprise written on the hunter’s face was win enough for Sabrina. With all the energy she had, the girl placed her hand on the knife and pulled it out. Blood filled her airways, making it difficult to breathe. After coughing, and spitting up what looked to be more blood that she expected, Sabrina shoved the knife into the hunter’s side. The blow would have landed in a wonderful place, had the hunter not moved to the left just a little sooner than Sabrina expected. It did hit her just about the hip, though. That would be noticeable enough for anyone to notice and question the hunter. Hopefully they’d get the truth out of her before she hightailed it out of the coven.
Sabrina fell to the floor in a heap, the wound on her neck bleeding heavily. Blood flooded her throat, causing a choking noise to come from the girl. Coughing as hard as she could to get it out, blood spilled down her chin. Dragging in a ragged breath, she moved her hand up to her wound and tried using her powers to heal herself. The girl focused all her energy to the area of the wound, but as soon as she saw the blue light coming from her finger tips it seemed to fizzle out. “N-no,” she choked out, clutching at her neck in a panic. This can’t be happening. It was too late.
Turning hated filled eyes up to the body in front of her, that stood smirking down at her small form, she forced herself to speak. “Yo-u will n-not get awa-y with th-this. My cove-n will kill you-” another cough ended her speech, and even more blood came up from her throat which she spat out onto the hunter’s shoes. The girl could feel her eyes shutting on their own, and allowed her body to fall back onto the floor. The only thought that could go through her mind was of her coven, what would happen to them? She didn’t doubt that Phoenix could handle most of the coven had there not been the threat of hunters amongst them. She wished she could warn her friend, but it was too late. The lack of blood was already making her dizzy, and there was no way she could scream to warn her family.
Her breathing began to slow as spots clouded her eyes. A darkness descended upon her that she had never felt before. She wondered for a second what Gwen was doing, was she preparing for an attack? Or just sitting in her room drinking away her problems? Probably the drinking. A small smile crossed the witch’s face at the antics of her unexpected ally. If anyone would kick this hunter’s ass, Sabrina hoped it would be Gwen. She had a feeling that the girl would do a damn good job of it. That was the last thought that crossed Sabrina’s mind as her eyes closed and her breathing stopped, her heart following soon after.
