A Good Feeling || Calliesse
They’d combed the beach and filled a little heart shaped container with their favorite pieces, cuddled under blankets and watched the sun set. A shared tub of popcorn, a movie they only half paid attention to, and then a night in at a little rentable cottage on the beach. They made love against every available surface, always starting out slow and tender but ending with fire and heat and fingers digging with need. Ending up in bed, bodies sated but their hearts still hungry they lingered against each other, fingers memorizing every slope, every dip and valley as they talked about different dream homes. Callie supposed that was the problem. They were both such open people, ready for so many different possibilities, that it was hard to imagine the perfect house. There wasn’t one suitable ending for them, one perfect home. No, with their hands twined and their heartbeats in sync Callie was fairly certain that she and Jesse could find perfection in anything. Maybe that was just what love did, changed your insides so that the rest of the world seemed effortless to navigate.
Callie woke with the sun, hopped into the shower and grinned when Jesse joined her. Sometimes they get up extra early just because they knew they’d need thorough time to distract each other from getting dressed. Eventually though, they both find their way to getting clothed, Callie slipping on her shoes and packing a few things in the overnight bag she loved to bring on these outings. They might have lingered, but they needed to pick Annie up from her Grandmother’s, grab some breakfast and drop her off at school, all which went without a hitch. The girl was unendingly excited about going to view the house with them. She’d happened to miss out on their other outings, and it was important to both Callie and Jesse that she be a part of this decision. The house had to be right for everyone involved.
Now she sat next to Jesse in the car, parked in the reserved lane outside of Annie’s school as they waited for the clock to strike 3.15. “It could be the beach, or the cute cottage, or the mind blowing morning sex,” she began, shooting Jesse a grin and squeezing his hand. “But I woke up with a really good feeling about today. Like . . . even if it’s not THE house it’s going to be important, it’s gonna get us one step closer to the house that will be ours.” She shook her head, replaying the voicemail their realtor Tessa had left them. “I’ve never heard Tess sound so excited about a listing. She said it’s newer, just came on the market, foreclosure so it’s a great deal.” Callie shifted in the seat to lean against Jesse. “Is it weird that I’m having fun with this? I’ve always heard people talk about how stressful it is to look for property, that it takes so long and they just want to get to the end of it. But it’s like every time we see a new place I just get more excited, because each listing makes this journey more real.” The brunette laughed at her own words. “God I’m so cheesy. Why do you love me? Oh, there’s Annie Bananie . . . on a scale of 1 to 10 how embarrassed would she be if I shouted that out the window?”
