Surge
Happy and healthy childhood, his parents are great role models and loving people. His father's a little eccentric, like an old timey inventor who's charm catches crowds in hopes of funding, who prides himself off the early success in his family history when humans started using electric pokemon for industrial means and needed safety regulations. His mother, who could talk the ear off a loudred, is a strong factory working woman type.
Surge takes after his mother a lot more, but the electrical hyperfixation he got straight from his dad, as electrical safety and electrical pokemon handling was drilled into him as a kid.
Originally from Unova, moved to Alola for a couple years to live with other family for some new experiences and really loved it.
Pikachu fan and had one at a young age, most popular kid in class cause of it.
Undiagnosed ADHD out the ass, but really a super empathetic and kind kid.
Koga
Ok fun time's over
Raised solely by his widowed mother, who was obviously a poison type using shinobi. She was gorgeous like 2005 japanese fighting game hot ninja wife but she was an absolutely jaded sociopath. I don't... want to say she didn't love Koga she just never showed it, because to her the best way to love your child is to make sure that they can stay alive in the life they're given.
Training and learning to live off the land, to fight, and to manipulate was all Koga knew. Fully home-schooled, was told to watch the children play in secret to learn how they behave instead of interacting and getting attached or emotionally invested. Gym in Fuschia is basically the family pride, so he inherits it as soon as his mother gives it.
Because he was an only child until Aya was born like about a decade after he was like super socially stunted and didn't really feel that attached to himself as a person. First hand experiences of sex and death way too young. I think it took him until about his 50s to really unlearn these poor habits from his childhood. A lot of it's repressed, so honestly, he doesn't care about these adverse experiences later in life. I think for someone who had such a weird cult like childhood, he's like... oddly "ok with it" if that makes sense.
Actually started enjoying poison types and his shinobi work after getting poisoned by a Venomoth (canon in masters ex) cause the thrill of death was so intense it forcibly snapped him out of his depersonalisation, and ends up loving his work by his late teens. Used Venomoth and Zubat from then on before getting more hazardous mons like koffing and grimer.
Sabrina
So to me, Mr. Psychic in Saffron is her father. Her mother isn't a psychic, and she was an only child.
I think, even if you take the psychic powers away, she is still very much a young autistic girl. Her world view is so compartmentalised for easier understanding that when you throw psychic powers in it just is exaggerated tenfold.
She didn't get along with other kids, her tantrums were more psionically dangerous every year that passed, and I'm gonna be real if everyone just took the time to breathe and understand her point of view it wouldn't escalate so badly.
But it did, and she ends up getting thrown around by psychs, doctors then labs who try to like "tame her". It started this complex she has where she feels like an alien 👽 compared to everyone else.
Her dad gets super exhausted by it as the years pass and he feels defeated that his kid, on the outside, looks like an absolute basket case and goes super cold on her.
She's basically in and out of labs trying to find inhibitors for her psychic powers for years, and she gets pretty nasty because of it.
I think, if you compare it to Koga though, Sabrina's always trying to understand why she's like this, why she was treated so poorly and misunderstood, and does a lot of introspection to better herself as early as possible.
They would do a lot of cross experiments with an abra, which then became a kadabra. I think the constant treading into eachother's minds by forced means made them bond on like a 4th dimension level. When she flipped her shit and did a massive amount of damage to the lab, she ended up stealing the Kadabra from the lab's system, and that's how she got Alakazam.
Ala is 100% like her pseudo father, and that's why as she gets older, she's always wanting to keep up to make sure not to disappoint him, as seen in masters ex.
I think thats all I got for now, I could go into the super detailed intricacies of it all but that will just be a huge fanfic at that point LOL so i hope you enjoy this 👍
