Fast Food
For the past few weeks, my brother and I have met for breakfast at Mama Margie’s. I have been helping him out with an event that takes place every Friday morning. These details aren’t very relevant...I was just bragging cause I’ve had Mama Margie’s for the past 3 weeks :)
But during my breakfast, I had a thought...
Mama Margie’s, if you aren’t familiar, is a Tex-Mex restaurant in San Antonio, Texas. It is a sit-down facility with a fast-food twist. You order, find a place to sit, and wait for your number to be called. That’s it. Plus there are free (self serve) chips and salsa :) It’s a great place to come and eat. But it is different than most sit-down places.
There is not a wait-staff or anyone waiting to greet you at the door. No one comes to deliver your food when your number is called. That’s not their focus. Their focus is good Tex-Mex food delivered fast at a reasonable price. When you come here, you come to order fast, get your food fast, eat fast, and leave fast.
I wonder if that’s how may of us expect God to be: “I don’t care about the small talk. I’m not interested in the cordial greetings. I just want you to ‘take my order’ and deliver.
I can say that’s how I am with God at times. It sucks when I think about it and when I’m honest with how I treat my relationship with God. You’d think after being a Christ-follower for half my life it wouldn’t be that way. But that’s not always the case.
Life gets busy. Work gets busy. Sports gets busy. School gets busy. Family gets busy. I gotta do this. I gotta do that. There’s no time!
I think the way life has become for everyone has tainted how life with God was meant to be.
We need to be able to slow down....and just talk to God. Slow down....and listen to God. Slow down....and just be still.
