Hihi! Sorry if this has been asked before, but I’m so curious— what if a half ghost is banished/exorcised? Does their human half die as well?
Hi, thanks for the question! I did not post my comics with an answer in mind, partially because in the AU, (and I have done a terrible job of conveying this), Danny is not half ghost. But I'm thinking about your ask! Here's some thoughts and explanations.
In the context of the comic/story, I still think of ghosts as an entity that comes from another world, but there were never portals built to access it because the barrier between the ghost realm and earth is becoming weakened in some way to ghost energy used against it. This means stronger ghosts are able to break through to the world of the living. The Fentons and Vlad didn't need to open portals to study ghosts or prove their existence because they were already here and publicly acknowledged. It's kind of a thing where some ghosts that have intense memories attached to earth may want to go there to try to recapture those feelings, or resolve something. Generally, they are very emotionally charged, and something about that makes them very quick to anger, making them threatening to the general public. There are government mandated safety lessons that everyone has to take in school in order to be able to deal with the ghosts that pop up in daily life.
In this story, ghosts have been streaming into earth for decades now with no clear cause or way to stop them. It's been researched but not solved yet. I think of it as a really desolate place filled with echoes of lives that people ache to return to. Perhaps ghosts fade away completely over time there as they forget who they were - another reason they may be so driven to stay attached to earth. Even though ghosts are not considered human, they were human at one point in time, and they're scrabbling at the walls trying to hang onto that.
But what would happen if someone who was half ghost were to get trapped on the other side? A regular human probably wouldn't be able to make their way back, but maybe a Halfa has the advantage of ghost powers that can break through back to earth in the right spots. You'd have to get lucky with enough power to do so, though.
I think it would look weird, too. Humans can't really see anything in the ghost realm, it just looks like a void to them. It might be really trippy to be half ghost and seeing patches of another world floating by.
In any case, because I see it more as a place ghosts manifest more than an actual hell or anything, I don't think being sent there would kill you outright. (You can probably die there though if you're not careful.) It's more like ghosts are born there but you don't have to be a ghost in order to exist there. It would not be that fun of an existence, though.
As a side note, as I've watched how my comic has been received so far, I may try restructuring the comic, outlining farther ahead, and adjusting the style so it's easier for me to stay consistent with it. I may restart it and post it over a longer period of time, I've seen at least one fancomic done using october prompts that expanded their timeline beyond the month, and that sounds like a great idea to me. I feel like I missed the mark on really conveying the core of what I was trying to say, lol. So I'll return to it with a fresh brain soon, I've just been buried under other stuff these past couple weeks. Thanks again 💖
