“I—” Akali starts, her eyes fixed on the pile of organs on the ground, no longer recognizable as man.  She’s going to faint or throw up, she thinks, and there’s nothing nearby to steady herself on.  She pries her eyes away from him, unable to look at the gore for another second.

Instead, she focuses on Evelynn’s retreating back, as she halfheartedly attempts to catch up, each step akin to slogging through a swamp.  “Why...” she whispers, unsure if Evelynn can hear her.  Her throat is suddenly dry, and her head feels like it’s buzzing.  She could really use a glass of water.

“That... was murder.  I’m an accomplice to murder.  Oh, God...”  She swallows hard as her vision blurs through a haze of tears.  Her hands and voice tremble when she asks, “What did he do?”
