Basic consent practice you should do: when someone tells you a boundary or a need, thank them. Healthy relationship dynamics aren’t just about not doing shitty things. You need to actively cultivate a dynamic in which everyone is comfortable articulating boundaries and needs and knowing that those needs will be respected and the boundaries adhered to. Thanking someone for articulating a boundary when we are otherwise told to disregard our boundaries or keep them to ourselves is not only really affirming, it also encourages them to do that in the future, and makes them feel that prioritizing themselves is something others will appreciate rather than be upset by. Because you should respect all that, you should be thankful that someone trusts you enough to speak up, and you should be happy for them. So express those things to them so that routine conversations about boundaries and consent will be a positive experience for them, rather than something anxious, fearful, or negative.

hey all, i need to get real right now, because a friend filled me in on this only this morning. it feels like no one has heard this news, and that’s probably because no one is reporting it due to election overload. trump’s victim has dropped the charges. let me make this clear: she had 2 sworn eyewitnesses to the literal rape (do u know how rare that is?) so we know the case itself had some definite identifiable merit going in, and 2 days before dropping the charges jane doe was going to break her anonymity. it’s reported that she received so many death threats in the hours between announcing that action and holding the press conference to do so that her safety became a serious concern and the press conference was cancelled. later, on the 6th, she dropped the charges altogether. it’s not going to trial.

do i think this is a coincidence? no fucking way. do i think he’s a rapist? most definitely; i don’t need a trial to recognize the truth. but we do need to reflect on the fact that this is what rape culture looks like: a world in which a woman can’t get justice for her childhood sexual assaut, because it would mean suing the president-elect of the united states and would put her life in serious danger. the lawyers were unclear as to why she dropped the charges, but it’s my firm belief that, like many survivors of assault, the pressure of laying her story out in front of the world became overwhelming, especially with so much at stake. it’s scary enough to press charges against ur rapist if ur both average people. if he’s gonna be the president? hahahahaha fun.

i’ve been sending good thoughts her way, and i don’t want to be the bearer of bad news like this, but i’ve seen so many people already talking about organizing around this rape case and it’s not even happening, y’all. this is almost worse than his win, tbh. i’m in so much pain for all of us, especially jane doe and those of us who needed to see him stand trial for this.

Donald Trump is a fascist. We shouldn’t be afraid of the word: it’s simple and accurate, and his fascism is hardly unique; it’s just a suppurating outgrowth of the fascism that was already there. Still, this time it’s different. The fascisms of Europe in the 1920s and 30s, or east Asia in the 50s and 60s, or Latin America in the 70s and 80s were all the response of a capitalist order to the terrifying potency of an organised working class. Fascism is what capitalism does when it’s under threat, something always latent but extending in claws when it’s time to fight; it imitates mass movements while never really having the support of the masses. (In Germany, for instance, support for the Nazis was highest among the industrial haute bourgeoisie, and declined through every social stratum; look at Trump’s share of the voter per income band and see the same pattern. The workers didn’t vote for Trump, they just didn’t vote for Clinton either.) But today the organised working class is nowhere to be found. There’s no coherent left-wing movement actively endangering capitalism; the crisis facing the liberal-capitalist order is entirely internal. It’s grinding against its own contradictions, circling the globe to turn back against itself, smashing through its biological and ecological limits and finding nothing on the other side. This is the death spasm, a truly nihilist fascism, the fascism of a global system prickling for enemies to destroy but charging only against itself. There’s no silence in the final and total victory, just an endless war with only one side. It’s not entirely the case, as the slogan puts it, that the only thing capable of defeating the radical right is a radical left. The radical right will defeat itself, sooner or later, even if it’s at the cost of a few tens of millions of lives. We need a radical left so there can be any kind of fight at all.

things to do now:

-push disillusioned liberals to the left. propagandize the shit outta that. make sure people know not just how the DNC sabotaged itself by cleansing itself of anything even superficially leftist, but also how this is just one example of liberalism’s complete inability to fight against white supremacy and fascism.

-organize. connect with your local BLM groups, unions, community groups, leftist political orgs, student activists - and especially any group aimed at protecting and aiding immigrants. do not bother with any petty sectarian leftist squabble for the near future just build off what needs to be done now to protect people and combat this threat.

-have zero tolerance for white supremacists. fellow white people, do not harbour racists in your friend groups, families, communities. unless you are totally unable or unsafe to do so, tear into those people in whatever way is most effective. do not let that slide ever. and set an example. liberals have been building up the idea that trump’s white supremacy is a threat (never planning for it to actually manifest). you can spend less time explaining why it’s a threat and more time showing how to combat it by weeding it out of your communities and lending your energy to its victims.

Over the last 24 hours, we’ve received no fewer than a dozen requests for contact information for local antifa groups all over Europe and the U.S. THIS IS FANTASTIC! If you’re one of the people who wants to hook up with your local antifa, here are some things to know: 1) We aren’t in contact with every antifa crew in the world (yet!). In a lot of ways, antifa are more organized than ever before and we’re seeing cross-border collaboration with projects like this tumblr, The International Anti-Fascist Defence Fund, the International Day of Solidarity with Anti-Fascist Prisoners, etc. So while we are building towards the day when we’ll know every antifa crew everywhere, we might not know of an active one in your area. 2) Referring you to a local antifa crew does not = endorsing or vouching for that crew. Due to things like linguistic barriers, geographic distance, etc. we might have heard of an antifa crew near you that we can put you in touch with, but that doesn’t mean we necessarily know much more about them beyond some contact info. So if we pass on a contact point for an antifa crew, please understand we aren’t endorsing them per se. You should approach contact with any antifa or political group you don’t know personally with some common-sense security precautions, just in case. Common-sense security precautions like these ones. 3) There might be active antifa networks where you are right now. If you’re in the U.S. you should check with The Torch Antifa Network; If you’re in the UK you should check with The Antifascist Network; If you’re in France you should check with La Horde; If you’re in Sweden you should check with Antifascistisk Aktion Sweden 4) You can probably find the nearest antifa crew yourself w/ some creative & skillful Googling. Have you typed in the name of your town/area/region + terms like “antifa,” “antifascist,” or “antiracist?” You might be pleasantly surprised by what comes up! 5) If you’ve done all that and can’t find a local antifa crew to connect with, it might be time to start your own. We’ve written some tips about starting an antifa crew + some thoughts on what kind of things your new crew could be doing. i’ve seen some people complain about the narrative that communal organization is essential now, because that’s too vague. but if i may, let me tell you about what life has been like here since our government was taken over, through a coup, by a right-wing coalition that has passed dictatorial education reforms, divested enormously from public healthcare and social safety, invested hundreds of millions in weapons, stimulated police violence, ramped up the criminalization of grassroots progressive movements, has laid the groundwork for massive privatization of state enterprises, is on the way to institutionalizing racially-motivated religious intolerance, has given support to far-right religious forces that seek to exterminate the LGBT population and is discussing abolishing the minimum wage and extending the work week

communal organization is all, quite literally ALL that has stood in their way. no upper-echelon political maneuver has yielded any sort of immediate result. they were important pre-coup, when it was time to use their political channels to expose illegal machinations, but that’s over now. what has yielded results in turning public opinion against the fascists is students occupying their schools to avoid the proposed education bill passing. what has yielded results is people occupying the buildings of the Ministry of Culture to stop its complete extinction, which was one of the first moves taken by the state after the coup. what has yielded results is people organizing frequent meetings in their workplaces, in their neighborhoods, in their schools and universities to decide how they can effectively and immediately disrupt daily life in the country. it’s people going on strike and going out into the streets and blocking traffic until the city comes to a standstill. it’s people working with each other to expand their networks - “here we are gathered now, but who else do you know who’s not here and who could come? where else can we go to unite politically with more people?”. it’s people taking violent action and busting up buildings, getting into fights with the police and preparing themselves more and more for the escalation of direct conflict.

this is the sort of organizing that needs to happen in the us, and it’s not easy. it hasn’t been easy here. 14 years of a center-left government made the left weak and complacent, minimized the importance of grassroots organization. taking that up again has not been as immediate as we would’ve liked but it is happening! the brazilian case also proved to me, personally, beyond doubt that there is a difference between a center-left government aligned with conservative powers and a full-on fascist government. people die in both situations - which is why silencing critique against the center-left is never a good idea - but they do die quicker under a fascist. and that delay is what gives them a shot at organizing, that delay is what needs to be maintained if real resistance is to have time to come into being. here, the center-leftists who remained committed to the centrist cause and the leftists who argue that there’s no difference between a liberal and a fascist bicker, but in their moments of organization they come together. the one thing they have in common, at least potentially if not always effectively, is that they want to do something about the fascists in power. i can only imagine this is the same in the us from what i’ve been reading. and that’s how you progress, you link up at a community level and every day you ask, “what can we do today?”
