Sadness affects all of us. It is all around you, every step of the way, around every corner you turn. It is the most loyal of companions. Even when you have nothing, you will surely have something to be sad about. In fact, a lot more reasons in such a situation. Often grief overwhelms you, weighing you down, tormenting you, crushing you. At such a time, the dams you put up will fail, and the tears will escape your eyes, and you should know it is okay to let them flow.
Issues need tissues. A saddened soul is like a glass of murky water. You can keep adding fresh water into the glass, but the glass will still retain a degree of impurity. So, like a glass has to be emptied and cleansed before it can hold pure water again, similarly only once you have cried your eyes out can the soul patch itself up and pursue happiness. Crying is an outlet for the sorrows you hold within, and these sorrows must be drained to make room for joy.
Afterwards, there remains a strange feeling of content in the heart. It feels lighter, more independent, like a burden has been lifted. Never again will the same reason bring you to your knees. Never again will you be vulnerable to the same tragedy the way you were. Crying is a strength, not a sign of weakness as it is portrayed to be. Its only the hard-hearted whose eyes are dry, for their emotions are decapitated. They do not feel as others feel, and that is the greatest weakness in itself.
Feelings, whether it be elation, happiness, joy, or ecstasy, or whether it be regret, guilt, pain, or despair, proves that the soul is not yet beyond hope. Don't complain about your troubles. Just cry them and fill their space with prayer and gratitude, for there is always a promise that tomorrow might just be the day for you...
