“Gee John, how come your mom lets you have two dead dads?”
Sadstuck drawing I did for an event at @artistsascend !! Went for some classic sadJohn feels, because I never got a chance to board that train.... til now. :3c
Just a simple quick thing with a slight difference in style, but I like it honestly.
You’re exactly sure why, but you have decided to play Heart and Soul. Why not, it’s a fairly easy song. You’re dressed up strangely, but you also suppose it’s for a recital. You hope your dad can see you.
As you start to play the song, you hum the lyrics to yourself. “Heart and soul...I fell in love with you. Heart and soul...” You play the song seamlessly, as your fingers glide across the piano.
You have time to think, since you can do this mindlessly. Suddenly you remember that you’re supposed to play a game...wasn’t it called S...S something. It had a weird circle-ly thing for a logo...Sburb!
Yeah, you were supposed to play that with...
Your hands slow down as you think harder. You’re not supposed to play this game alone, and all you can remember are colors...Red, green, purple...Red, Black, Orange...weren’t you blue?
You stop playing the song slowly as the names come back to one at the time...and everything else that’s happened.
You blink for a few seconds, and stop completely, although you can still hear the song playing as though you never stopped.
There was...Rose, whom you remember as purple. Then there was...Jade? Yes, Jade. At the back of your mind you remember a color switch between you and her....and the last one...Red...he loved rapping and music...Dave!
You start to cry, why can’t you remember them? What happened?
Then suddenly it all comes back to you in one rush-the trolls, the game, everything and anything that happened.
The song continues to play on, and as it gets to the chorus again, you hear: “Heart and soul, you were the heir of breath.” In everyone’s voices, even the trolls. You turn around, hoping to see them but they’re not there, like you knew. You catch sight of the calender and see the date, April 13th, 1936.
The song stops, and you play the rest of the song, mumbling, “Heart and soul...I remember all of you...Heart and Soul, there’s nothing I can do...sadly..Because...”
You start to sob again as you play and sing. “Because...because...” You bang your fists on the keyboard, and scream. The song comes to a horrifying stop, and you pause for a few seconds, and begin to play again, this time in a slower manner.
A man comes in with a cake, and you mumble to yourself, “Happy birthday to me.”
Your name is John Egbert. The year is 1996, today is your 60th birthday, and you regret that you couldn’t save them.
