For the past three days or so I have been planning a trip to Seattle.
I will have to walk after I get off the bus to my destination, there is a bus but I’m terrified I’ll miss the stop. (I did that in Portland and never DID get to the library).
In anticipation of this trip I started looking for gender neutral bathrooms, or family restrooms.
( For those of you who don’t know — and I didn’t before I had kids — a family restroom is a single room that contains a toilet, a sink and most importantly, a door that can be locked so that mom or dad can take care of their business without worrying that one of the youngsters might escape while the parent is otherwise occupied.)
In the two days I have been looking I have discovered that
Safe2pee.org (Now called http://www.refugerestrooms.org/) is a great resource if you click the city over in “browse" instead of just entering it the search.
You can add restrooms to the database without having to log in, and anyone can edit them. In fact I added four I know of in my town.
It doesn’t count Seatac as in the Seattle area, also doesn’t have a to search by neighborhood.
Findfamilyrestrooms.com has ONE listing in Washington.
Sometimes people will mention a restroom on Yelp reviews.
Settle Center website has a wonderful map that marks handicapped restrooms, yet none of them say family on them. I called and the lady on the phone knew of one family restroom in center house….If I have time I will be investigating this while there.
I called The Vera Project; gendered bathrooms, but downstairs. I won’t be drinking much while there.
Edit: A tweet today and further exploration on the internet says they do Indeed have gender neutral restrooms. I must have gotten a new person on the phone or something.
I wondered where this went, I didn’t mean to draft it…
