After receiving a wealth of positive attention for using hobbits, elves and rugby players in the past, Air New Zealand has decided to give male passengers an added level of in flight awkwardness. The real issue here is the perceived level of sexism on display on flights that might very well be jam packed with women, children and sensitive octogenarians. This is even more astonishing given the amount of female-centric gender empowerment at play in brand messages these days. 

So, why would they do this? Maybe Sauron has taken over Middle Earth and unleashed his years of pent up sexual frustration upon the mortals. Or they just couldn't think of any way to tap into the current zeitgeist and decide to go for the most attention-grabbing option they could muster.
