book rec asks!!
the “if you like this, try this!” trend has been making it’s way through the book community and i wanted to try my hand at it on tumblr
TO DO LIST
follow me
reblog this post
send me an ask with a 👽 and a book you really liked (try to keep it to 1 book per ask to avoid confusion, but send as many asks as you would like!)
blacklist “#sage does things” if you don’t want to see these
RESULTS
you will receive 2 to 4 recommendations based on what i can come up with, along with a brief paragraph about why
keep in mind my suggestions might not be super accurate if i haven’t read the book, but I will be trying my best!!
also, i don’t read contemporary, and I won’t be able to recommend much if any of it, so if you can avoid it please do not send me contemporary titles
THAT’S IT!
👽Throne of Glass (also this whole idea is so cool, thank you sm for doing it♥️)
you’re welcome!!
TRUTHWITCH by Susan Dennard (read, 5 stars) — truthwitch is like throne of glass’s older, grown up sibling. more complex, more in depth magic systems, more characters, and executed so well you wonder which god susan dennard sold her soul too.
GRACELING by Kristin Cashore (read, 5 stars) — like throne of glass, graceling is set in a kingdom with a power hungry king. like throne of glass, the protagonist of graceling is adept at killing. and like throne of glass graceling is an epic adventure with more twists than you can ever see coming.
SEA OF SHADOWS by Kelley Armstrong (read, 5 stars) — sea of shadows deviates from the “inspired by medieval europe” trend by being based in fantasy china, but it’s still a story about monsters and adventure with two kick ass protagonists.
THE YOUNG ELITES by Marie Lu (read, 4 stars) — the young elites shares tog’s darkness and bloodthirsty protagonist, but set in a world based on renaissance with rich, vibrant cultures as a backdrop to the brutality.
book recs!!
👽 the young elites by marie lu
did you mean: a fav?
ASH PRINCESS by Laura Sebastian (read, 5 stars) —ash princess has quite a lot of similarities to the young elites, most notably a protagonist that’s been brutalized for most of her life standing up for herself and her bid for the throne. and like tye, ash princess doesn’t shy away from violence or the realities of life in such a world.
THREE DARK CROWNS by Kendare Blake (read, 5 stars) — on the surface three dark crowns doesn’t look like it has much in common with the young elites but i’m here to say you’re wrong, with balloons, a cake, and a big ass microphone. three dark crowns is just as dark and gritty as the young elites, just focusing more on politics than actual bloodshed.
AN EMBER IN THE ASHES by Sabaa Tahir (read, 4 stars) — an ember in the ashes is the perfect combination of rebellion, politics, and adventure. it’s world is still gritty, dark, and wholly realistic but the story goes in an entirely different direction than either of the other ones.
