Happy May Day! A drawing made by swiggn_bob which I coloured in. Little Mordred is out fishing with his also adopted brother Sangremore (who he shares a birthday with) and his friends Dodinel and Kay of Estral.
Thirty Days of Arthurian Character Development
The List
Day Ten: Sagremore
1. Have you ever written something about them? What?
Sagremore has a very minor role in Heart near the end of the book where he's Mordred's rather hapless squire.
2. If you could write a perfect Arthurian Novel about them, what would their story arc be?
I once had the idea for (an entirely serious) story where Sagremore was Nimue's twin brother. The two of them where the children of the fisherman and his wife who found Mordred after the boat crashed. The three of them were taken by Morgan Le Fay to live with Ganieda (Merlin's sister) in a giant tree (I swear, this was not a crack story).
3. What point in their life would you set their story?
Whenever. I'm not picky. Sagremore has like, a million different backstories within the legend itself, let alone modern interpretations. I'd be interested in seeing any of them.
4. Are they more suited for a pre or post-Camlann story?
Again, either. I don't know if he's necessarily a strict canidate to die at Camlann and if he and Mordred remain friends, it might be interesting to see him raising Mordred's children.
5. Which characters would you ship them with in the story?
I can't think of anyone.
6. What would be their relationship with other characters?
It would really depend on how I chose to present the character-- which version of his legend I chose and which characters I would pair him with. It's a wide open book with Sagremore and I'd need to know where I was going before selecting the characters he'd interact with and how that would work.
7. What's the most crack storyline you'd like to see this character star in?
Reading up on him, I see at one point he was known as Sagremore the Orange. I'm pretty sure only a crack storyline can explain how that came about.
