British Racing Green, of course! by Ken Hendricks and Larry Patchett This one brings back fond memories. Back in the 1980’s I was a big Triumph sports car fan. Back then “sports cars” didn’t have roll up windows and they weren’t made in Japan. I had several Triumphs but my absolute favorite was the 1960 TR3. It ran like a champ and if there ever was a problem, it was easy to work on. For example, the first step in pulling the transmission was to take the seats out. Yes, eventually the transmission came out the top of the car. The model depicted here doesn’t have the great detail that we usually enjoy with our amazing Franklin Mint and Danbury Mint models but there was one detail that I was happy to see included. There is a hole in the grille where the starting crank could be inserted (through another hole in the radiator) to actually start the engine. It was handy for timing as well. I think this car was probably the last car ever to have that option. By the way, my TR3 was white but I’m sure that most of them were originally manufactured with the “proper” color! This is a forced perspective photograph of a 1/24 scale die-cast model car in front of a real background. Saico 1957 Triumph TR3A https://flic.kr/p/2hkteKb
