Haku doesn’t startle at the soft touch to his neck, nor at the way Sai slips out of the shadows to perch in his lap.
He only settles his arms on his waist, an entirely too fond smile curling his lips.
“Back from your mission?” he asks, leaning into the palm Sai curls around his jaw.
“Ino and I just got back,” Sai murmurs, sliding his hand around to get a fists full of Haku’s hair, matching his grin with a sly smile of his own as he pulls him into a kiss. “I missed you and your pretty hair.”
Haku laughs into his mouth, unable to help it, and leans back enough to scrape his teeth over Sai’s lip.
But there is something curling in his chest, ugly and festering and he tries to stomp it down but he can’t help the flicker of jealousy and–
Sai, despite his utter lack of emotions, has always been able to read the human body well.
It’s nothing, he wants to say, but it lodges in his throat like a stone as he takes in the faintest edge of worry in Sai’s face.
“Are you sure you want me?” Haku blurts out. He winces. “I mean–you want a name, right? A clan? I can’t give you that.”
Sai smiles, leaning in, and it’s like getting sucker punched by Sakura with how fast the breath gets knocked out of him.
“I want you,” Sai whispers between kisses. “And only you.”
