I know you've been getting a lot of books lately. So I was wondering what all types of books do you read?

Hey, hey, hey.

I have been buying a lot of books. This year I’ve bought more books than music, except I’m not buying new books, just books that are new to my collection. The truth is, I’m mostly into non-fiction. The books I’m reading usually pertain to the Black Liberation movements of the past. Several of the books I’ve bought were written by former political prisoners. As I find myself getting more into the nature of rebellion and the subject of revolution, I keep reading books where they mention books that helped them write the book I’m currently reading. I just received three books Friday, and one of them was placed in a cart on Amazon in February while I was still reading The Wretched of the Earth by Frantz Fanon. That is a tough ass political science book, and it was my first time reading Fanon. Which was the wrong move, because I had Black Skin, White Masks right there, and still grabbed ‘Wretched’. SMH! It took me forever, but I blame the goddamn foreword and the preface.

Pretty much any book that can be accompanied by a documentary is something I would buy. Most of my books are probably the types of things I’d be reading if I were in college. There are the less dense, not even remotely political books in my possession. James Baldwin’s fiction, while I’ve heard is not the happiest, has often been suggested to me, so I bought a couple of novels of his. Sometimes I might just buy books that are hailed as classics, because I was told “everybody reads them.” Which not only isn’t true, but there are plenty of things that once I’d decided not to read them, I never looked back. I proudly never read Uncle Tom’s Cabin or To Kill A Mocking Bird. And I’ve never so much as opened a Harry Potter or Twilight Book. I guess I was always more into books about actual people for some reason. Or maybe I had a better chance of knowing the books were about Black people if they were biographies.

Oddly enough, people ask me about my books and reading often. It’s all done in my leisure, but I just choose to read about very serious topics. Eventually I’m going to start collecting my books about prisons and really get into how they’re horrible institutions. I have some questions, so I’m going to reach out to my followers on Twitter who work around them and studied the prison industrial complex. I have a weird fascination with liberation. I just want to be informed, as well as incensed to make sure I’m trying to make a difference in a way that’s constructive. Hope this helps. I’m more than aware that I recommended no titles or authors to you. I don’t suggest books to people, because my interests are more in the information and not necessarily the titles. I pick subjects I want to learn about and then buy books. Hope this helps. Thanks for writing again.

This morning on my way to school I remembered the best chicken I ever ate. The smell was in my nose all day and I could taste it, but I forgot where I got it from. I have no type of clue about it either😖😥😢. I was hungry for just that all day.
