Chapter 1 Ghost Files

Shuichi looked down in disbelief . It was almost like something out of a dream . He was floating above his own body . Blood poured from his body’s wound as his attacker grabbed his body trying to get rid of the evidence . Shuichi tried to stop him , but his hand went right through him .

“ No... “ , Shuichi took looked at his hands realizing he was now dead .

“ I’M A GHOST !?!?!?!? “ , Shuichi screamed in surprise .

You see Shuichi Saihara is supposed to be the hero of this story , but as you see he’s dead .

Earlier that day...

Today had started out like any other day . He was working “ cases “ as usual .

“ Thank you , for finding my little girl ! “ , the girl thanked petting her pet alligator of all things . “ It’s fine you don’t have to thank me . “ , Shuichi rubbed the back of his head sheepishly . “ Oh , your so modest Shuichi , try to take a compliment for once . “ , she rebutted puffing her cheeks . “ I guess so... “ , he replied sweat dropping .

Honestly , he could never figure out why people thought he was talented or anything . “ I’m nothing more than a glorified errand boy , I’m nothing special . “ , Shuichi thought walking away .

Later that day he ran into his childhood friend . “ I can’t wait for you to see my performance , Shuichi ! “ , the energetic blond girl gave him one of her trademark infectious smiles . Her name was Kaede Akamatsu , some people like to rudely call her Piano Idiot . If Shuichi was completely honest the two of them are definite opposites . She had quite the sunny disposition , while he was well him . Not to mention she was recognized worldwide as a amazing pianist . He wouldn’t be surprised if she was scouted for Hope’s Peak when they got into high school .

“ Yeah , I can’t wait to see you . “ , he replied as Kaede blushed . “ You mean see my performance right , Shuichi ?! “ , Kaede questioned . “ Yeah , of course . “ , Shuichi hid his blush with the rim of his cap . Most importantly , he was in love with Kaede though he doesn’t have the guts to confess to her . “ Right . “ , Kaede looked away awkwardly . It seemed like she wanted to tell him something . “ No , I’ll wait till later... “ , Kaede whispered . “ Wait for what ? “ , he questioned . “ Ah , nothing see you later , Shuichi . “ , Kaede then bolted in a hurry with a red face .

“ Was it something I said ? “ , Shuichi pondered .

“ Now , I’m starting to remember it happened as I made my way to the performance... “ , he thought in the present as the scene changed to night .

His clothes were a bit casual since Kaede said it was fine . He had on his typical white dress shirt with his black jacket and his cap . As Shuichi made his was into the performance hall he paused .

It was almost like time froze as a familiar face glared back at him . After all , he could never forget the face of that man . He was the same man he had caught as a murderer of that fateful case , Taro Shijima . Shuichi froze as the man approached him with baited breath . He felt his arm be grabbed as he was dragged into a vacant room . He locked the door as Shuichi felt his heart race .

“ Your going to kill me aren’t you ? “ , Shuichi questioned Taro . “ You hit the nail on the head Sherlock , it’s time for revenge . “ , Taro pulled out a knife aiming it at him . Shuichi backed up fear whelming up inside him . “ I...I didn’t know about what the that man did to your family . “ , Shuichi confessed as he was ignored by Taro . “ I just found my uncle’s case file on accident and...ended up finding what the police missed . “ , Shuichi continued he hit the wall . Shuichi gulped as Taro looked at him with those same eyes from when he caught him though now they were much more intense .

“ I-I’m sorry... “ , Shuichi’s words stumbled out . Though , Taro wouldn’t listen he wanted blood . “ I’m afraid sorry doesn’t cut it , Detective . As they say ‘ curiosity killed the cat . ‘ “ , the man looked almost demonic as he shoved the knife through his heart .

Flashback over

Shuichi yelped in surprise when his own killer turned to his ghost .

Shuichi grabbed his mouth as the man gave him a wicked smile .

“ You can see me !?!? “ , Shuichi screamed in surprise . “ Of course , I can . “ , ‘Taro’ replied as he grew horns and his teeth sharpened . The man’s body grew a amazing amount of muscle a pair of bat-like wings .

The demon lunged at him as he was suddenly grabbed by a light blue haired girl in a kimono riding some short of broom . Shuichi screamed as he was pulled away . Eventually , they lost the demonfied killer and stood before a big castle surrounded by yellow clouds .

“ Sorry about the bumpy ride my name is Botan and I am the grim reaper . “ , Botan introduced herself . Shuichi looked at the girl in disbelief though it would hardly be the strangest thing to happen today .

“ What just happened ? “ , Shuichi asked still a bit dazed . “ Well , as you can already tell you have just died . As for that man that’s bit of a longer story . “ , Botan answered . “ So , is this like the afterlife ? “ , Shuichi looked around at the bizarre place . “ Yes , though it’s proper name is Spirit World . “ , Botan answered . “ So , I’m really dead , huh . “ , Shuichi said sadly feeling regret .

“ Well , for now yes . “ , Botan replied . “ For now ? “ , hope filled Shuichi’s eyes as Botan said that . “ I’ll explain after we reach Lord Koema . “ , Botan motioned Shuichi to follow her .

Shuichi amazed as he looked around the castle . And a bit amused at a bunch of ogres doing office work . Eventually they reached Koema’s door and Botan opened it . Shuichi looked confused at the empty office seat . “ Hello , I’m right here ! Look down ! “ , Shuichi looked down to see a brown haired toddler with strange clothes . “ Your Lord Koema ? “ , Shuichi asked as Botan elbowed him . “ Show some respect he’s the guy who runs this place . “ , Botan explained as straighted himself and bowed .

“ Sorry , Lord Koema . “ , Shuichi apologized as Koema looked him over . “ I could get used to this . “ , Koema thought seeing Shuichi’s obedience . “ That’s right I am Lord Koema and you are Shuichi Saihara ? “ , Koema asked . “ Y-yes . “ , Shuichi answered as Koema nodded his head . “ Well , if you accept a certain deal you can come back to life . You’ll have to overcome a ordeal first . “ , Koema explained . “ A ordeal ? What kind ? “ , Shuichi questioned . “ I originally had something different in mind , but considering the circumstances I’ll have to change the ordeal . “ , Koema explained . Shuichi looked quizzically at the egg in Koema’s hand . “ Time is of the essence , if you wish to resurrect and save the girl you love you will have defeat the demon Mangle . “ , Koema explained . “ Mangle ? Wait , you mean Taro ? “ , Shuichi questioned as Koema nodded . “ There is another part to it if you accept . You will become the Spirit Detective . “ , Koema elaborated . “ Spirit detective , you mean like a detective to solve spirit world related cases right . “ , Shuichi asked . “ That’s exactly why I chose you ! You have a gift Shuichi even if you don’t realize it yet . As a Spirit Detective you will gain the ability to use your spirit energy and defeat Mangle . “ , Koema explained . “ I’m not gifted really . But , you mentioned the one I love that means...” , Shuichi’s eyes widened in fear realizing that Mangle would go after Kaede .

“ The demon feeds off Taro’s hatred and he will stop at nothing to get his vengeance upon you . Even , if it means killing everyone you love to get back at you . He’s quite the nasty criminal . “ , Koema continued . “ So , he’s being controlled by some demon . And it’s my fault he’s going to try to kill Kaede . He’ll probably go after my uncle too... “ , Shuichi looked down . “ Chin up , its not your fault Shuichi . Besides you can stop him and save everyone . “ , Botan assured .

Shuichi thought on it . His entire life he felt so worthless . Between his parents abandoning him and leaving him with his uncle to his so called “ talent “ . That can’t even help people till it’s too late . Well , no more !

“ I accept ! “ , Shuichi answered . Botan started to lead him back to his body as Koema handed him a egg . “ What’s this for ? “ , Shuichi asked . “ It will be useful later Botan will explain . “ , Koema gestured Botan who sighed .

They found his body held in a closest . It was surrounded by some weird golden energy . “ Well , go in . “ , Botan told him as he jumped into his body . To his surprise his body was completely healed . “ Wha ? “ , Shuichi opened the door looking down at himself . “ Well , as Koema was saying at first he had this more complicated ordeal in mind , but right now that not the issue . You must stop the Spirit world criminal Mangle . “ , Shuichi followed Botan to Mangle .

The theater was in chaos with people running everywhere . Kaede held a chair and hit Mangle with it . Though it wasn’t very effective . Kaede paled looking at the utterly demolished chair . “ Dang , what are you made of ? “ , Kaede stepped back nervously looking at the hulking demon .

“ KAEDE ! “ , Shuichi shouted only for them to both turn to him in shock . Botan put a strange ring around his finger . “ Okay , now make your gun shape with your hand and say Spirit Gun . “ , Botan told him . Shuichi hade his hand a gun shape and aimed it at the demon . “ Like this ? “ , Shuichi asked . Botan nodded .

“ Your alive ? THAT’S IMPOSSIBLE !!!!! “ , Mangle launched himself at Shuichi . “ Well , here goes nothing...SPIRIT GUN ! “ , Shuichi aimed at the mouth seeing as Kaede’s previous attack was ineffective . The demon must have some hard skin , but his insides won’t be .

The was a loud bang as a blue beam of light shot from Shuichi’s pointer finger . The demon yelled in pain as he fell to the ground transforming back into Taro as a little demon crawled out resembling Taro’s demonfied form . “ That’s Mangle ! “ , Botan pointed as Shuichi grabbed Mangle so he couldn’t get away .

Shuichi was about to leave to take the demon away as Kaede came up to him . “ What in the world is going on , Shuichi ?! “ , Kaede asked . “ Well , you see it’s a long story...” , Botan started .

Later...

Kaede sighed as they walked back home . “ Weirdest!day!ever! “ , Kaede complained . “ Talk about weird I literally died . I saw Heaven or Spirit World as Botan called it . “ , Shuichi quipped . “ This is so weird , though at least it’s official now Shuichi . “ , Kaede started . “ What is ? “ , Shuichi questioned .

“ Your officially a detective ! “ , Kaede held her hands in the air as Shuichi sweat dropped .
