We left the Bahamas on our weather window for the 50-hour run down the Thorny Path to the Dominican Republic.

The first day gave us calm seas and a little sailing, but the nights kept us on watch with lightning building around us offshore before finally reaching the coast just before dawn.

Somewhere in the middle of that calm sailing, I decided clothes were optional around the boat.

Tripping in the DR.

We got off the boat for a few days and travelled across the Dominican Republic with Chris and Danielle.

We spent time in Santo Domingo, went through the Los Tres Ojos caves, and made our way down to Bayahibe.

The driving here is scary. It’s pretty much a free for all. Frogger mixed with a little Mad Max, with a little hang on to your shorts.

Waiting at Great Exuma for Hurricane Erin to pass, strolling the unusually deserted Sand Dollar beach with lush trees overhanging the ocean. Big Majors gave us a mix of wind, waves and real progress. An anchor dive in nothing but a sheer tank top, a stack of mast climbs and a little bikini-free swimming and outdoor shower along the way. Slowly the lightning repairs are coming together.
