But I’m back and I’ve fixed things! If you wander on over to our timeline you’ll note a slight shift, mainly just condensing the sign up/assignment periods. Sign ups will now run through the 15th and I’ll work some black magic to ensure you have your assignments by midnight on the 16th. That leaves everyone with the same amount of time to work, with presents due December 23rd! Huzzah!

heyhey! can you recommed something to protect dog feets from salt? they heap it onto the sidewalks here as soon as there's an inkling of snow, and my dog does the paw-in-the-air hobbling every time she steps into it :/

We use paw wax to avoid ice but that’s about the extent of my knowledge - we don’t spend much time on salted roads. 

I see Non-stop socks recommended a lot, but 🤷‍♂️

Okay so first there was me writing “Look, Wangji, I don’t know if there is something like fate, but what I know is that if you want good things in your life, you can’t run away from them. Sometimes you need to meet them halfway.” (in The Painter of Past Lives ) and @yougetsomekisses commenting with  “okay now i maybe need a fic about xichen learning to meet someone halfway”

Then there was this fanart. And the idea of Jiang Cheng accidentally coming across Lan Xichen who´s in seclusion came to my mind but it wasn´t enough for a fic.

But now I thought about how I used to love to write about internalized homophobia and tops who bottom because their lover is scared to and characters bottoming for the first time because they trust their lover and I was like LAN XICHEN AND JIANG CHENG

Now I only have to put two and two together :D

concerning your reply under that adhd post with self-diagnosing; i meant it more general, including depression and stuff, bc i don't want to call my state of being anything until i have, like, not proof but... i don't want to be a person who goes "yeah i'm depressed(tm)" and then later on finds out oh nah, it wasn't depression, i just needed a better day schedule to sleep healthy and BE healthy. same with adhd, the posts are relatable, but,,,, they might only be relatable. maybe not me. yknow

I mean darling... even if you don’t have clinical major depression, you can still be depressed. And if you’re feeling the symptoms of depression, even if it’s due to sleep dysregulation, that’s still depression. It’s not major depression, it’s probably not something you need to treat with therapy or meds, but it still affected you.

And even if you were wrong, if you went to a doctor for many things (like anxiety or depression), they basically ask you a checklist of “do you feel like this? how often in the last 3-6 months?” and you can find those online, and if you answer a certain number of them affirmatively, they’ll be like “well, looks like you’ve got anxiety/depression” and that’s just. you self-reporting. Which you can do for yourself.

There is nothing wrong with self-diagnosis. And hell, there’s nothing wrong with being WRONG about that, actual diagnoses can be wrong too. I spent much of my early 20s thinking I had bipolar because of misdiagnosed borderline personality disorder and ADHD. Like, yeah, sometimes maybe “i think I have X but I haven’t had a chance to get screened yet” is a better thing to say than “i have X” but that doesn’t mean you can’t identify with things that you recognize yourself in, and that doesn’t mean you can’t say “I am pretty sure I have X because the best of my research aligns with my lived experience”. 

That’s all self-diagnosis is. It’s giving yourself something to help you process shit you experience and find resources that might help you deal with it.

i mean, i have zero experience writing fanfic for historical chinese fantasy stuff, but in my other works whenever i sit in front of the keyboard and think "okay now WHAT" i've started to just. make it the character's problem. how DO you get across that river with A having a broken leg and B has zero survival skills in the wild? they trial and error. and in letting the characters try and see what works, you get around having to come up with a solition on the spot. outsourcing !

Well, now I´m not sure if this is a part of a longer message and the previous part got lost or if I´m just stupid because I´m missing context.

ANYWAY, I really love your approach, it´s a great way to move the plot while making it interesting for the reader but also fun to write! I should definitely try it!

You made me think about my way of writing and I just realized I approach it from the other way :D I consider myself a romance writer so for me, the relationship is the most important part so I´m like: what can I do to enhance the sexual tension? What about one of them being wounded and the other having to take care of them? Maybe carrying them on their back? But why? Okay, their leg is broken? How do they break it?

So that´s the way I do it :D
