I absolutely ADORE your art style! It feels familiar and nostalgic, even though its the first time I'm seeing it. Is there anything that inspired how you draw :0?
Thank you for asking!
First, I want to say that a few ppl from Saintclan’s ask page have been commenting such nice things about the comic’s art style. TYSM for the super encouraging and kind words!!! I’m just answering this ask specifically bc of the question attached to it teehee, but I read every submission I get (multiple times over) and I appreciate them all (very much).
I am definitely a nostalgic person when it comes to expressing myself!! I <3 collecting toys and comics that have influenced my childhood, which in turn influenced my artwork waaaaaay back when I started drawing as my outlet. Stuff like Ducktales, Garfield, MLP, obviously Warriors, and LPS really gets my attention lol.
Also I’ve been mentally keeping tabs on the histories of artists like Laurel Burch, Louis Wain, Wanda Gag, and B Kliban, who drew SO MANY CATS for their ENTIRE LIFETIME and how success/recognition for their style & artistry came from just….. drawing cats…. because they enjoyed drawings cats and almost all they did was express themself through cat art. There’s gotta be some kind of psychology behind a well-esteemed illustrator and their relationship with cats. I believe that every cat I draw brings a little bit of joy to both me and hopefully someone else out there, and I think that’s really healthy for the soul, so I think it’s important to draw as MANY cats as I possibly can. I think the way I draw cats now is because it’s a style that’s quick to produce and easy to express myself with.
I got my Bachelor’s degree in Illustration & I am going on 3 years of experience as an airbrush t-shirt artist, so I’ve had a lot of time and experience to figure out what I like to create, and how I can create a lot of it fast, but still keep it understandable and good-looking.
Ultimatelyyyyyy I’m just happy that these weird bendy cat forms are amusing to other people as well!!!
Take this Driftstar panel sketch for the road………
