Also known as San Genarro, the said saint is the patron of volcanic eruptions, blood banks, and Naples. Mga bok at ter, did you know that he is also known for his blood relic? On specific dates, people are waiting for the liquefaction of the relic. The blood in the reliquary usually liquefies now on three specific days: September 19 (Saint Januarius' feast day), December 16 (anniversary of the eruption of Mt. Vesuvius in 1631), and the Saturday before the first Sunday of May (commemorating the transfer of the relic to Naples). This miracle has been occuring 18 times each year for the past 600 years. The first liquefaction was first recorded on 17 August 1389. It is said that if the miracle of liquefaction fails to happen, it can heral disaster for the coming months and years. This failure happened in 1939, the year in which the World War II started, and in 1980, the year of Irpinia earthquake. __________________________ Sources: [1] Aleteia Bad Omen?
