i had a long rambling ask typed out and then my browser force-closed and i lost it so im gonna be brief: you said cooper chose his name right? did he choose 'foster' too? if so, is it a reference to maybe being a foster kid? my reasoning is it would maybe be easier to drop out of high school when not in a home with parents to freak out over it

he did choose foster, but it had nothing to do with being a foster kid! cooper was raised by his biological parents
