Morning all. I hope this finds you well.
Yet more songs and ramblings should you find the time within your busy schedules to afford me 15 minutes. Some great songs, I’ve tried an extra 10% harder to find some decent ones this week!
First up, the brother of a good friend of mine who goes by the name of Saint Raymond. Real name Callum Burrows, hailing from Nottingham he has been popular among friends and family for 3-4 years now. Between releasing his debut EP ‘Escapade’ in 2013 to his fourth, and latest EP in 2017 ‘A Light That Blinds’, he has been anything but quiet. He released his only album to date in 2015, a great listen entitled ‘Young Blood’ which I never grow tired of listening to. As well as writing music he supported HAIM during their 2013 UK & Europe tours and followed this up by supporting Ed Sheeran during his 2014 Multiply tour of UK & Europe. A talented singer and song writer with a gift for a catchy tune, been to see him live twice and he certainly entertains! Further to the song I’m posting give ‘Young Blood’ and ‘Be There’ a good listen, both from his album.

Second today and we turn to the curious German band CAN. Formed in 1968 they have been credited with being the pioneers of the Krautrock genre. Now I had to look this up as I thought that was a joke when I first read that word but it is a genuine genre given to psychedelic, avant garde German groups that were popular in the late 60′s! I first heard them with a song called ‘The Thief’ taken from an early compilation of outtakes which was covered by Radiohead. The group were made up of four musicians who invited guest vocalists to the group, the song I have chosen being during the time Japanese vocalist Damo Suzuki was at the helm. The song I have chosen is called ‘Vitamin C’ and is off the 1972 album ‘Ege Bamyasi’, which contains songs since covered or sampled by the likes of Beck and Kanye West......sorry, Ye. (?!)

Final song this week and the talented DJ Shadow. Real name Josh Davis, a Californian producer & DJ. Some of you may have heard of him, he had a commercially successful debut album in 1996 titled ‘Endtroducing’. One thing I can tell you about this album is that it entered the Guinness Book of World Records as the first completely sampled album! The song I have chosen to post has quite a neat back story. The song which was sampled by DJ Shadow, for the purposes of his track, was given to him after it was found in an abandoned recording studio. The reel containing a number of songs, believed to be from 1967, simply had the word ‘Joe’ written on it and to this day, to my knowledge, nobody knows who Joe is/was. DJ Shadow enjoyed one particular track off the reel so much that he sampled it for this song I’m posting.

Thanks for reading, enjoy the tracks and stay tuned for more next week. Peace x
