The municipalities located in the Nansa Valley are the following: Lamasón, Puentenansa, Cosío, San Sebastián de Garabandal, Tudanca, Polaciones, a part of the Cabuérniga municipality corresponding to the town of Carmona, Herrerías and Val de San Vicente.
During the Late Middle Ages and the Ancien Régime this region belonged to the lordships of the house of the marquises of Aguilar de Campoo.

Valle del Nansa, Spain (No. 1)
The Nansa Valley is located in Cantabria, Spain, between the valleys of Liébana and Saja. It is bounded by the Sierra del Escudo to the north and the Sierra de Peña Labra to the south.
Through the valley of the Nansa circulates the river of the same name that by its torrential and erosive character, especially in its headwaters, forms slopes of steep slopes. The region presents a great landscape quality, due to its topographic characteristics of high peaks, wide native forests, especially oak (Quercus robur) and beech, and low population density dedicated mostly to livestock (primary sector).

Rionansa, Spain
Rionansa is a municipality located in the autonomous community of Cantabria, Spain. The municipality has an area of 118.02 km², and in 2008 had a population of 1144 (INE).
It is located in the center-west of this community, in the region of Saja-Nansa, 73 kilometers from Santander. Due to its location, it is an important crossroads as it connects the Nansa valley (Tudanca, Polaciones), the Saja valley (Cabuérniga, Los Tojos), the West Coast and Liébana.
This municipality is located within the valley of the Nansa River, from which it takes its name, in the western part of Cantabria. The territory is close to one hundred and twenty square kilometers, all belonging to the Saja National Hunting Reserve.
