The whole theme of forgiving your abusers/bullies in order to move past bad situations is bullshit! The real message of the forgiveness theme is for victims to forgive THEMSELVES not their abusers/bullies. Any entertainment created with the theme of the former is shitty writing! Why can’t people see that ! !
I mean to me I think it is a good message, it just shouldn’t be the only option for characters, and it should be done right if that’s where they’re going. I always thought Marinette was going to have some type of reconciliation with Chloe eventually, that’s just how these stories are but more importantly, Marinette is a very nice girl and is always open to seeing better in others and helping them in all kinds of ways. The writers just completely dropped the ball with how they set all this up. The people she bullied (and I mostly mean Marinette and Sabrina, it would be impossible to focus on every other character but those two are Chloe’s biggest offenses) weren’t given a chance to do or think anything else. Sabrina especially, who was made into a joke for the most part. It almost became ‘forgive or else’ and that is a big fat no for me.
It would be nice if they have this theme of not everyone deserving forgiveness with Gabe and Adrien because wow, just wow. And it wouldn’t be a bad thing to teach children either. People need to do what’s best for themselves, and if that involves not wanting anything to do with someone who hurt them, then that’s a valid option. I just don’t know if this show will go there considering how they treated Chloe and treated her like the victim the entire time.
