#FrostedFlatwoodsSalamander in the #SalamanderLab @amphibianfound this is one of a handful of last known GA animals. We of course hope there are many more — but as of right now, there are only 7 animals known to occur in the state. Ambystoma cingulatum, Frosted Flatwoods Salamander larva today in the #SalamanderLab at the Amphibian Foundation. They are growing fast! We hope to include these critically imperiled salamanders into our captive breeding program. Recently metamorphosed Frosted Flatwoods Salamander, #Ambystoma cingulatum from St Marks Wildlife Refuge. Through our federal collaboration, we were able to acquire 15 young animals produced from this year's breeding season for our captive breeding colony. Frosted and Reticulated Flatwoods Salamanders are both at imminent risk of extinction with 90% losses in population since 1999.
