Next up are two dragons that I made for friends.

These took almost as long to do as the plushies because of all the little details.

For the red dragon, the person I was making it for DMs a game that play in, so I wanted it to be about the size of a large DnD minifig. Everything about this except the sword and hat are handmade: I had itty bitty fake pearls that I strung together to make a lil necklace, and I used twine to braid together a little miniature coil of rope. The treasure hoard inside the rope is foil sculpted and painted gold, along with a few fake gemstones and a few leftover pearls that didn't go into the necklace.

The larger dragon was made for @salamandersofftheclock !

I wanted to try and make a salamander dragon based off of her icon, and I wanted to try and add some safeguards against her cat, so the base is the lid from a jar and can be screwed on to another jar stop it from being knocked off of a shelf as easily.

All of my clay sculpts start off as wire and foil to make up the bulk of the body. (The wings aren't picture attached yet at this point)

Again, everything on the base is made by hand! I had parchment paper lying around and used it to roll scrolls and make the pages of the books, which I ended up binding by hand for no other reason than I had seen several book binding videos cross my dash while working.

It's not easy to see, but there's also a small inkwell and quill in the space by the tail, which I ended up using a molted feather from my neighbor's chickens for.

Last Line Tag Game

So I still get regular tags all the time from @diphthongsfordays which I adore haha. It has been a rough time, and I've been having a lot of those hard life moments to learn plenty of difficult new things from. Here are some last lines from a journal rant last night.

Love could always fail, sure. And this is pretty scary. But what is more terrifying is when love is real, and everything works out. Because then the only way it ends is in death. It is a terrible thing to truly know.

currently reading: so many things, all the time lol. I'm making my way through a Spanish textbook, a Chinese textbook, Rumi's Big Red Book of poetry, and Madness: A Bipolar Life by Marya Hornbacher. the bipolar memoir is very necessary but very intense so if you choose to pick it up, please be careful with that one.

last song: everything i wanted by billie eilish. this song has seen me through a LOT this year. geez.

last movie: Dark Waters. I was like, oh, Mark Ruffalo and Anne Hathaway? he going through an entire room full of files about biochemistry?? cheers bro I'll drink to that, I been there. lol but tbh I didn't end up liking it that much overall.

NFWMB - What sort of antagonists do you like to write? Is the conflict in your story even driven by an antagonistic character?

I tend to write metaphorical antagonists. So like, characters raging against fate and eternity, or characters in mortal combat with themselves. Conflict tends to be driven by time, as an exploration into how things always seem to develop differently than how you would have first thought or wanted. Sometimes it's about taking what you learn along the way and using it, and sometimes it's about asking, well, what happens when you can't, or when you don't want to? Sometimes not everyone makes it out after all, and sometimes that's okay.
