If, purely theoretically, someone was perhaps getting into DreamSMP, where would you recommend they start? I find myself, slightly overwhelmed by all the Cool Shit™️

dream smp is like dnd and theatre mixed together where every person is simultaneously the dungeon master AND the player. every single person on the dreamsmp is their own protagonist from their own pov with their own motivations and goals etc etc so its pretty hard to get the full picture right away

id say the easiest way to get into dreamsmp is to pick one or two perspectives and watch those all the way through to get a coherent linear story. my personal favourite is technoblade but he jumps in p late in the middle of season 1 and misses a lot of plot-crucial things so id recommend tommyinnit and tubbo_ considering theyre pretty involved in most of the major arcs and have 2 wildly differing viewpoints during the same points of the story so you can get a bigger scope of whats happening. there are also several “recap blogs” on tumblr you could follow to get a quick rundown of everything that happens in dreamsmp if you miss an episode from whichever pov you want to look through

i will say though, that the best way to experience the story is by alternating between different people. their streams are different, their content is different, and overall they explore a different part of the dream smp. like a party splitting up in dnd but each individual member gets their own coherent storyline that sometimes intersects with others.

its impossible to fully grasp ALL of the differing povs and motivations if you stick purely to one streamer bc of all the intersecting emotions and motivations and the complicated dynamics that play into the characters. i have adhd so i literally open three different streams at the same time and watch simultaneously but obviously that doesnt work for everyone so itd be good to check in with like. recap blogs/twts/ytbers

dreamsmp is like dnd and theatre combined AND like dnd and theatre, its all just roleplay. everyone is a “character” portrayed by their respective content creator and obligatory “dont hate on the content creator bc their character is an abusive radiated homeless teletubby that emotionally abuses, gaslights, and manipulates children” bc some people seem to forget that this is all just make-believe

the ships, the plot, EVERYTHING, is just roleplay. just a bunch of friends having fun. like dnd if the players actually showed up on time

if youre the creating type: fanart, fanfiction, etc etc, this is a really good blog to see which creators are comfortable with what things. some CCs are fine with shipping, others are not, etc etc

as long as you respect the boundaries of the creators then things should be good
