1- What OTP in your fandom do you just not get?

In my last ask I talked about Maiko. So for this one I’ll talk about Kataang. While I do like the idea/potential of a future kataang (I say future bc I don’t think a 12yo needed any romance anyways) I don’t like the way it was written in canon. I mean, they purposely made so many parallels to a mother-son relationship between Katara and Aang, and they wanted it to become romantic? It gave me the ickies growing up. Like, why did the writers do that. Yuck.

7- is there anything you used to like but can’t stand now?

I also answered this in a previous ask so I’ll think of a different answer. I used to like that episode that they’re hanging out on Kyoshi Island, but now every time I watch it I’m just annoyed that ‘Aangy’ has a giggling fan club and he pushes off his chores onto Katara as always and I just see the immaturity of him. And Sokka who is a sexist jerk! It annoys me lol. At least Sokka isn’t a sexist jerk at the end of the series, can’t say the same about Aang not being immature anymore though oops

12-is there an unpopular arc that you like that the fandom doesn’t? Why?

So I actually enjoyed the energy bending at the end. A lot of people call it a deus ex machina, and I can understand that viewpoint. I think it was subtly hinted at throughout the series. The idea that everything is connected, the illusion of death, how Aang was able to trace the energy of Appa and Momo to find them in the swamp. It’s subtle, but it’s there. And it made a way for Aang to end the war without violence- which I think is a beautiful thing. (I also really loved the backstory of lion turtles in LOK)

1- what OTPs in your fandom do you just not get?

This is kinda hard to answer bc I’m a multi shipper and I enjoy most atla ships 😅 So I guess I’m gonna go on another anti maiko bit bc that’s the ship that I most dislike out of all the ships. I just think their relationship was so unhealthy. They were just apathetic, and angry, and didn’t communicate. The line “I didn’t ask for your whole life story” has always really bothered me. As a romantic partner, hell even as a friend, you should listen to the other person and comfort them as best you can. Mai didn’t care for his thoughts and feelings, seemed annoyed when he tried to give her gifts, and overall disinterested in him. That doesn’t sound like a fun time. And then yeah, she saves his life but that’s all we get for a redemption for her. We don’t see her have remorse for her actions, or really change her mindset about the Fire Nation. Then Bryke just popped her in there in the end and had them kiss. It’s such an unsatisfactory ending. It’s not believable. Zuko was a totally different person now- but was Mai? We never know.

10- most disliked arc? Why?

Okay I’m gonna go with another controversial answer. Aang’s arc in season three. I think his development in season three got stunted because of the Kataang writing. I loved the bending side of everything, but I’m not sure if he completely mastered the avatar state. He just got a well-placed rock to the back to switch it on again. It was kinda disappointing. I truly wanted Aang to have to face his reality and stop running away, but that’s exactly what he did. That’s what he always did. I wanted to see that growth of maturity in him, I wanted him to apologize to Katara for kissing her twice without permission, and I wanted to see them actually talk about their feelings but again we just got a kiss shoved in at the end and all was well. Sigh. (I’d be on board with the kataang ship if they had written it well but they aren’t great at romance. Also a 12yo didn’t need romance.)

11- is there an unpopular character you like that the fandom doesn’t? Why?

I feel like there aren’t many unpopular characters besides the bad guys 😂 So on that note, I’m gonna say Wan Shi Tong. “You think you’re the first to believe your war is justified?” Creepy owl dude was right. Humans are always going to think what they’re doing is right and good and justified whether it is or not. Humans are biased. We create war and violence. I mean, just look at the state of the world as it is now. Shit sucks here man. If I was Wan Shi Tong, I’d wanna hide in the Spirit World too.

7- is there anything you used to like but can’t stand now?

I was gonna say maiko but I never liked them together. And then I thought kataang, but I still kinda like that ship (just not the writing of it in canon)

So I’m gonna go with a much simpler answer. The Great Divide episode. 😂

10- most disliked arc? Why?

In my last ask, you can see me complaining about what happened to Hama. I don’t like that she was just sent back to prison and forgotten. Going off of that, I was also disappointed with the White Lotus arc. You get these whispers and hints of an old society rebellion and yeah they all showed up at the end but I wish they had been more involved somehow. And I wish Hama could have joined them 😩 (I get this question again in my next ask and I will give another arc I’m not pleased with)

22- popular character you hate?

This one is tough. All the main characters are my babies. I guess if I had to chose a popular character that I didn’t totally love it would be Mai. I kinda have a hate/love relationship with her character as a whole. I don’t like the way she treated Zuko, I don’t like her apathetic attitude, I don’t like that we never saw a proper redemption of her character besides “oh I don’t want my ex bf to die”. I used to be the teenager that suppressed her emotions and pretended not to care and it was so unhealthy. I wish we could have seen more growth of her character, because she was badass. (And I am also displeased with the maiko arc but really it’s the last five minutes of the show that just suck)

5- has fandom ever ruined a pairing for you?

I’d say not yet but the zukka fandom is this close 👌🏻

9- most disliked character(s)? Why?

Hmm I already talked about how I have a love/hate relationship with Mai on a previous ask about popular characters, so I’ll think of another character I dislike. One of the baddies. Probably Zhao. Loser was competing with a 16yo kid for glory. No honor!! He was also just an asshole.

23. Unpopular character you love?

Honestly, Hama. She was a survivor and her rage was justified. I’m really mad that she just got captured and went back to jail and forgotten about. I really wish that Katara and Sokka would have fought for her to go home and rehabilitate and see Kanna again (maybe even join the white lotus later in the series!). She discovered blood bending, maybe she could have discovered a way to use it to heal diseases. People think she was creepy but I think she was strong and badass.

9. Most disliked character(s)? Why?

Zorc, Akhenaden, Gozaburo. I could go off, I’m not going to go off, but I will go to extreme lengths to avoid including either of them in my fics and I’ll only read stuff involving them from like three or four authors I super trust and respect. Zorc especially hits too close to home for me, explained a tiny bit more later below the cut.

I have a very large project I’m working on that unfortunately Zorc’s kinda a key part of, and i’m excited for the project but i’m really not looking forward to getting into that head and trying to write him. Akhenaden has been difficult enough during my ygo big bang fic, and he doesn’t even have that prominent of a role. Not looking forward to writing Zorc, but the story payoff will be well-worth it (hopefully).

As for why I don’t like the characters, the reasons are a little bit the same for the first two: traumatizing TKB. Akhenaden chose to slaughter an entire village (minus one young thief boy) under the premise that they were tombrobbers and therefore were expendable/lesser lifes. Piss off. Zorc did all his bullshit in the Ring and used TKB’s pain and trauma for his own gain. It hits a little too close to home to past abuse experiences, so the character is not one I like interacting with/consuming media of.

As for Gozaburo, abusive father who put Kaiba and Mokuba through hell and back? Yeah drop dead and rot in hell. It’s as simple as that.
