Anfisa Letyago at Saluting Battery, in Malta for Cercle
Stone to Stone
According to the European Commission, ‘the whole territory of Malta constitutes a single urban region.’ (Wikipedia, ‘Malta,’ footnoted to ‘Interim Territorial Cohesion Report’). That’s pretty obvious everywhere on the island, but no more so than in Valetta. Wherever you are in the city, you’re looking out upon throngs of people between buildings abutting one another – made out of the very stones on which they stand. Space is at a premium. However, the city has a couple of notable parks on its west side, a bit of open space in several remaining forts, and a few Plazas. The first photo shows facades on buildings just below the Upper Barrakka Gardens. The second shows the gardens as they merge into the “Saluting Battery.” The third shows details of a beautiful gate looking from the main shopping street toward the Grand Harbor.

(repost from Airy Persiflage) This is something of a wayback machine episode– I recorded it without thinking on an Ipad the week before the Inauguration and forgot about it. I kind of like it, however, and decided to post it. I’ll admit this up front, I recorded this on an Ipad on the way home the week before the Inauguration, 2017, so it’s in the future tense. Our President has been in office…
