Would love your take after you crunch that Law interview

I don’t have a take for real, but I will say this… Once you put to the side all the antics and the theatrics, it’s clear that Lawrence is nothing short of brilliant when it comes to branding and maneuvering through the industry.

I’ve said it before I’m not a fashion person, but I’ve always been fascinated by the business behind it and the inner workings.

With Law, outside of finding him super entertaining and raw as a storyteller, I respect the way he has turned his passion into a sustainable business (not a given in this industry which is something he’s discussed before). He’s positioned himself in a way where not only clients recognize his value, but brands do too. The latter is HARD.

One thing that deserved a lot more time in my opinion is how he’s been integrated into Zendaya’s fashion deals. They brushed over it but it’s something worth discussing. Even without knowing the specifics, I’d loooove to know the general structure of those contracts. It’s rare. It speaks to trust between them but also being daring enough to advocate for different ways of thinking about creative partnerships. We saw something similar with Malcolm & Marie and Zendaya sharing some points (I don’t remember the structure but you know what im referring to) with the crew members that helped them bring this movie to life. That kind of collaborative equity model isn’t just generous, it’s forward-thinking. I also think about Coogler’s deal for Sinners.

Others brought it up as well and I am excited to see what Law’s business venture with Crystalle (and others) becomes. It feels like a natural next step for him tbh. Building something bigger than himself, kind of a legacy play if you will. Especially when you look at where some of his former assistants have landed (they are UP), it makes perfect sense. Outside of him scaling his brand, it’s also building a system that uplifts others while protecting them in an industry that rarely does which is something that gets major points for me.

After writing all that I guess I did have a take lol!

This might be tmi, I think I have come to the understanding that I won't be able to find a partner that meets the expectations and standards that I have.

Im not saying there aren't any left, but just that i live in europe, i have african parents that expect me to marry a fellow country man, since those in my vicinity ain't cutting it, the probability of meeting that person is low to none, without straying from my country men that is.

I feel as a woman. If you become too wise to the world, you're going to have a hard time finding a partner that meets your expectations. But all my parents see are naive girls younger than me fall head first into marriage/children in a short amount of time, it's always act first think later.

I want to go in knowing that man can fend for himself, clean after himself and add more to my life, rather than be like those girls, realising they are new mom with a crying baby and he doesn't lift a finger (true story), or you know those videos where the husband decides to make a sandwich and the whole kitchen is turned upside down, that weaponised incompetency shit would piss me off.

It's just more complicated by african diaspora who carried the culture into another country and expect you to follow suit but because you are raised in a different environment, your world view is different, I'm not with that "be like your mother, who sacrificed, sacrificed" ughh, and worse it's the women who made terrible choices for husband pressing the young girls when THEIR marriage was trash.

An auntie literally told her niece she would never speak to her in the streets if she marries outside of her country men 😤. Anyway, this was prompted because you brought up religion, which is another huge deterrent in itself, I'm on the same page as you, because in my community all I see is how they use that to be misogynistic but i can't express that to my parents when they're like, look he has a good job and grew up here like you.

Similarly, my parents don't understand why my older brother who is a clean freak, tidy, has a successful job, a house, keeps saying no to the girls in our community they keep asking him to pursue, but he's an atheist and all the girls, even the ones born here are religious, he was honest about it the last time but it led to a huge row.

This right here "If you become too wise to the world, you're going to have a hard time finding a partner that meets your expectations". Idk where in Africa you're from but in our culture, women are expected to tolerate a whole lot of bullshit that I would NEVER rock with lol. To those who get married young and have kids, if they like it I love it. However, from my experience, a lot of them feel like they rushed it and end up stuck in an unhappy marriage. I was lucky that my parents went to school overseas so their world views were different than those back home which meant that they never imposed anything on me. Now the aunties and grandmas is a different story lol. I absolutely HATE when folks want to corner you into dating/marrying someone from where you are from. I do understand the why (to a certain extent) but it completely ignores the benefits/positive aspects of being with someone from a different background. You nailed it on the religion. It's a big reason why i detached from it very early. I'd say good for you for knowing what you want and don't want and not settling for something you feel might make your people happy but won't make you happy. At the end of the day it's your life and you are the one who will be coming to that person everyday. My unsolicited advice is to always prioritize your happiness and forget about the imaginary clock people put on you when it comes to being in a relationship, getting married, etc.
