“Not to be rude, but your current level of excitement is a little too much for me to handle right now.”

ever since she was a little girl, emma had always LOVED exploring. the woods were always a tough terrain for her to navigate without disobeying her father’s orders to never stray from the path. it was a { proven } fact that the best views and most obscure (but still beautiful) things to see were hidden in the woods, just WAITING to be discovered. besides, no story ever started with the main character following the path without straying even once. curiosity was not only what killed the cat but also what fueled the best stories. straying from the path was the very thing that led her and norman to the [ shady ] cabin in the woods that was depicted in the diary he found under the carpet in room 4 (and what made them stumble upon the pot field the same journey and nearly got them killed).
so it is a double-sided sword, so what? even if she nearly got killed the experience had brought her and norman closer together and that inevitably was the driving force to her being offered a job at the motel by norma. { besides, it should be expected that she do things that most people wouldn’t -- she didn’t have much time to take things safe and hope to have no regrets -- given her condition. } the woods made her feel calm and she made it a priority to find woods to explore when she moved places.
which was how she ended up here-- wherever HERE was. she and her father had moved from white pine bay after an INCIDENT involving the motel had nearly gotten her killed. she had no idea why FORKS, washington seemed like a fit for the two but he didn’t ask her for her opinion before he put the store and their loft for sale and bought another much like it in the new town. he let explore while he moved in-- he decided that helping him move in would be ‘too strenuous’ for her to handle-- so she had taken the opportunity to find a forest that was AWAY FROM TOWN where she could escape to when she needed time away from life.
after driving for about half an hour emma found the exact type of place she had been looking for. trees everywhere and very little people around that might question why she was there. she even found a nice spot hidden away from the road that her bug could reach without scraping the ground where she could park. turning off the engine and placing her tank into the mesh holder on the side of her backpack, she was ready to go exploring. this was her time to unwind and let her mind process everything that had happened to lead her here. when she let her mind wander her legs would go into autopilot and on many occasions when she came back to reality she was VERY LOST.
hearing something snap near her, emma quickly surveyed her surroundings before her gaze landed on a boy staring right back at her.
