Low key so hilarious to me that Riley is *married* when he shows back up. Because it’s obvious what they’re trying to do right, emphasizing how shitty Buffy’s life is currently by having her ex show back up and be absolutely thriving.
But he left fourteen months ago, just over a year. And he and Sam have been married for 4 months, so it took him 10 months, less than a year, to go from oh, Buffy, I love you so much, and it’s killing me that you don’t love me back as much, that you don’t need me, so I’m leaving even though I love you forever so much, to being fully married to another woman. Like, damn, I guess he didn’t love her that much then.
But then! Then Sam starts telling Buffy about how heartbroken Riley was and how it took him a year to get over her. And I’m just dying trying to figure out if that means Sam had already been married to this man for two months before he finally got over his ex or if Sam is just making up bullshit to make Buffy feel better and not doing the math as she’s saying it on the fly.
