need to go take my worksis hostage and force her to catch up immediately
This is my good friend Brenden Barnes. A year ago today, January 22nd, at just around this time, 10 pm, he was walking with his best friend when he was struck and killed. The driver fled the scene. His best friend, Sam Garvin had his leg shattered, but still called 911, then his mom. His mom recalls him calling out for Brenden, who was about 20 feet away from him. Sam just kept repeating, "I think Brenden's dead. He's dead mom." Now, Brenden was definitely a troublemaker. But man did he know how to make people feel better. I can't put all of his personality into words. He had an amazing sense of humor. He would do anything for his friends. Him and his sister, Jordan, were as close as can be and Sam was like a brother to him. He was very involved with his church and he loved scuba diving. He leaves his mark on you. He was one of a kind. He was such a good guy. Only 15. He would be 16. He left way too soon.
Sam, I can't begin to imagine what you've gone through. You witnessed your best friend / brother die. I can hear you calling for help, telling your mom that Brenden was dead. I can't. I just. Everytime I think of you and Brenden, my heart tightens. I know he's still with you though. He gave you the strength to get better and continue acting. The doctors said you wouldn't be able to act or walk for several months, but you did it within a couple. When I saw you at Brenden's memorial, nearly a year ago, you were in a wheelchair. I couldn't stop looking at you and Jordan and Rosa. It broke my heart realizing you all lost a part of you. My heart is always with you and Brenden. <3
I know noone will probably read this, but it feels better for me to get this out. I miss you, Brenden. You always knew how to make everyone laugh in middle school. All the girls loved you. haha. And you knew that. I'll even admit, I used to like you. haha. It's still hard for me to believe that I won't see you again. It's tough. Everytime i think about your death, I just imagine Sam and you and I tear up. Your best friend was there as you took your last breath. The trial starts next month. You'll get your justice soon sweetheart. And when she's found guilty, I know all of us will rest better. I have pictures of you on my wall. I miss you. More than you can imagine. But I know you're still here. Watching over Jordan, Sam and Rosa. You're always in all of our hearts, never forget that Laffy Taffy <3
