"THE TERMINATOR" by Sam Hadley
Empire Magazine (January 2023)
Acht Stunden sind kein Tag (Eight Hours Don’t Make a Day) | Rainer Werner Fassbinder | 1972 - 1973
Poster by British illustrator Sam Hadley for the theatrical release of Eight Hours Don’t Make a Day and of course the cover of Criterion’s box set.
When I saw images of the Criterion set online (I own Arrow Academy’s UK release) I took it to be a photo montage and thought it was a great image, but it’s really nice to find it’s a painting! I think it really captures the stars well and the generally upbeat nature of the series. It’s been interesting to watch this during a pretty chronological retrospective viewing of Fassbinder’s films and find it so different in it’s humour, humanism, and positivity and yet still unmistakably Fassbinder.
My favorite movie poster of 2018.
