Anthony Mackie as Sam Wilson CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER (2014) dir. Anthony Russo & Joe Russo
@bokketo : that was a pretty good fight, huh? steve @ sam not accepting : john wick.
Finishing a mission unscathed is unlikely in their line of work. Bullets are flying, nades being chucked around willy-nilly, debris flying half a mile when Hulk goes haywire... This is probably why normal people like him aren’t usually fit for a job like this. The military is one thing, but being in a gang of a bunch of literal superheroes is the equivalent of being reminded every day that he can die in the blink of an eye from the most obscure cause. “Steve, I know you are not blind and see that I, in fact, did not have a good time.” His voice isn’t bitter, just a man stating the facts at hand as he heaves a sigh and rubs at the back of his neck. Almost gave himself some whiplash with the way he’d been maneuvering around those narrow spaces. “But you know, good on you for thinking it was a nice fight. I’m glad y’had so much fun punchin’ the baddies out.”
Ya know?
If Episode 5 started with a Flashback to Sam holding flowers standing in a cemetery, and then the camera moves to show the name "Riley" in the stone as Sam speaks about how much he misses him and how sorry he is for what happened... I would actually forgive marvel for casting Evan Peters...

He smiles. “You know, in theory that sounds nice.” But even he knows there are right or wrong choices, no matter how much of a grey world they live in. Some things are black and white, it’s just not always, but it doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist. He takes a moment to think, anyway, wondering if he’ll ever come to admit to the past that still plagues him more often than he likes to think. People have been curious before, especially Steve, but finding the courage to speak more openly about just how much of an impact Riley had on his life is——daunting. “Being an asshole intentionally is a wrong choice. Being a nice person ‘cause it’s just the right thing to do...is the right choice.”
Neither of which is relevant to the actual conversation they’re holding between them; and, well, maybe it is a bit of a defensive mechanism. He remembers everything vividly, his best friend, right-hand man, gone in an instant. The blur in his eyes, the rage in his heart, the rumble of the plane engine on his ride back to America, alone. Sam’s spoken about it, vaguely, the loss of Riley and how it’d been the reason he left the Air Force behind, but... “Actually movin’ on from his memory just doesn’t feel like it’s the right thing t’do.”

That makes him pause. “Again?” It’s spoken as if he’s annoyed, but he knows he’s not a man with serum flowing in his blood that makes him heal faster, so this just becomes a nuisance. Sam inhales a deep breath, and that’s when it started to hit him, the pain in his side, and he glances down, seeing the red stain over navy blue and white, blending through the stripes of red. “Ah shit, man...” It’s moments like these that have to remind him how painfully human he is, that being surrounded by a bunch of superhumans or aliens, didn’t make him invincible. There’s a low throb of pain, but it’s not enough to pull him out of the fight, not entirely, and he knows that he could make it worse, or that it could be at risk of an infection, but Sam doesn’t have the time to sit around. “Don’t suppose ya got some medical supplies, do you?”

Nothing is ever so simple with the lives that they live, and progressing forward is the only option for the likes of them. The alternative is to walk away, to leave it all behind, but Sam hasn’t been as capable of that as he thought he could be. He figured he could set aside the whole legacy for good, to let it rest alongside Steve, but of course it hadn’t been that easy. Instead, he has to fight. He is no stranger to any of it, but his emotions regarding this entire situation has been nothing short of completely and utterly complicated. “Oh no, not another one of your pep talks that you make up on the spot,” Sam says, shaking his head as he pops a tater tot into his mouth.
Coming home hasn’t been something he’s been able to do in a week. He’s just been gone, one state away, and then two, then halfway across the country. Being The Falcon has always been fulfilling, but he’s always been following a leader of some kind. Then, he’d been doing his own thing for a little while, out of the way of any government or military, aside from Joaquin’s help. Things had been complicated then, and they’re complicated now. He eats another three tots, all at once, and then sighs. Good, warm food isn’t an affordance while being constantly on the move. He’s just glad he can sit down now, shield off his back and feet on the ground. “I know there’s always somethin’ worth fightin’ for. Look at who you’re talking to, Steve.” He tilts his head back and chuckles. “Doesn’t mean it gets any easier. People are stubborn and don’t like change.”
