Garrow and Marian were deep in conversation with Horst. Only Brom watched as Eragon, only a few months old, slid down a bench and took his first steps, falling immediately.

A smile spread across Brom’s face but it vanished as soon as it had appeared.

Eragon bent down, picked up two small branches and ripped the twigs off them. He kept one for himself and handed the other to his son.

“Today i’m going to teach you how to spar,” he said.
