According to officials, three priests from Tajpur hamlet in the Unnao region, 45 kilometres from Lucknow, convinced a young guy to practise "samadhi" underground in order to profit from religious sacrifices. Police rushed to the area as soon as they heard about it and promptly extricated the young man. Cops can be seen dismantling the man's mud and bamboo burial cover in a video of the incident. All four suspects, including the young man who was buried, have been apprehended by police. Locals said the scam arose from a desire to generate money during the Hindu festival of Navratri. Shubham Goswami, a native of Tajpur hamlet near the Asiwan police station, entered a six-foot-deep ditch and practised "samadhi" on Navratri. Vineet Goswami, Mr. Goswami's father, is apparently also working to dig the pit.
