I was just trying to remember the name of an old comic strip (Goofus and Gallant) and in pursuit searched "old comic two boys one bad one good" and shucks wouldn't you know it's a comically broad net

Oh shit! Now I actually have to come up with a topic!
So for the past... I wanna say 8 years, I've been starting, stopping, reworking, and rewriting a book (potentially a series, but I have to finish the first book before I can say that). It kind of all started when I heard about the thought of threads that connect everyone (like the red thread thing for lovers and such), and that gave me an idea of "what if everyone was actually spools of thread, the world was a loom, and our actions formed the designs of a grand tapestry?" And this whole world and story idea spun out from there. I've solidified the story into what I believe is the final plan, and have been writing the actual book for a bit now. It's slowly getting to a preview point where I can share the first five chapters to my beta readers (friends and family lmao) to get feedback as I go.
Because I'm a nerd and no one asked, I'll list the main characters:
-Professor Casiah Nevre: A rather short woman who likes to keep people at arms length (preferably further), she's one of the top professors for her school in the field of Applied Energetics and takes great pride in her inventions. Easily absorbed in her work which can cause her to neglect her own rest and food. Prideful, adaptable, logical.
-Turi, Dean of Historical Studies: a man from a race of people known as the Bronthians, humanoid but with distinctly mammalian-animal appearances. He has an ursine appearance though as a rather bookish man, has an unexpectedly lithe build. He prefers to take his time studying the wisdom of the past for answers, and can be rather indecisive for quick decisions. Detail oriented, wise, solemn.
-Vara Latich: a heavily built woman of a race known as Landkin for their connection with the regions they live in. Her specific group is the Swampkin, giving her rather dark gray skin. She's energetic and eager to learn things, as while she has no formal education, she was her village's Story-Keeper and adores learning the legends of the world. Uncouth, Warm-Hearted, Spiritual.
-Kraz Jov: a man of the reptilian race known as Drak-Ul. He's the largest of the group and his experiences as a soldier have led to substance abuse issues. While he is the least educated of the group, unable to read or write, he is also the one with the most experience of life without protection of a village or city. His heart bubbles very close to the surface and that can sometimes lead to outbursts, be they of happiness or anger. Loyal, aggressive, selfless
unfortunate yin-yang of asceticism and consumerism we've got going on here huh
having a peine fort et dure day how bout yourself
Hot take: 90% of the horror movies from the 70s and 80s sucked. And by that I mean they're not scary or heart pounding or exciting.
yaaaaay the woman I hate having classes with is in my new class and yay she's going on NIMBY but make it *green* rants yay I'm missing all the trick or treaters to listen to this yayayayauay
Anyway why is it that when you make microfractures on your bones, they get harder and more durable, but when you have small sprains and stuff to things like your wrist and ankles, it just makes them worse?! That's not fair!
I went to my sibs high school graduation this past weekend, 88 F. no clouds. no breeze. no shade, no tent, heat radiating straight back up from an astroturf field. I quite quickly thought "fuck this" and hung out under a nearish-by group of big trees until they started calling names.
they had a huge balloon arch over the main aisle. at least 20 feet tall, in the school colors, with huge chrome ones spelling out 2023.
and they.
they just started popping in the heat, maybe once every five minutes or so
and as soon as I realized what the sound was I could not stop losing my everloving shit. it was the icing on an absurd fucking cake. they kindly spaced themselves out such that, as soon as I regained composure, another one would go and I'd fall apart again immediately.
so the audience experience was: sitting through a ceremony that could have been an email, battling the early stages of heat exhaustion, and occasionally hearing an enormous POP followed by gleeful cackling from the woods, like some bored witch is taking potshots from the treeline
