Have to do a little write-up about my Jeju vacation. So my Korean friend and I wanted to go to Jeju for a few days. It was her first time going on any trip with a foreigner, so eh, cool, will be a good time. Day 1: We met at Yongsan Train Station last Saturday and took the KTX down to Gwangju. This girl is always hungry though so we paid a ridiculous amount of money for food. Never doing that again. We got to Gwangju by lunch and met my foreigner friend from New Zealand. I hadn't seen her for a few months so we did a lot of catching up...in English. Poor thing said she was fine, but at least she worked on her listening skills. From the downtown area in Gwangju, we rode the subway to the airport and took the 35-minute ride to Jeju. The weather was awesome and we asked about getting a car rental since I got my license. BUT turns out that you have to have your license for over a year to rent! Dang...so we would have to bus or taxi it everywhere. Anyway, we had a delicious overly priced pig grilled dinner, and had a good night's rest at At Airport Guesthouse. Will do review on this later... Day 2: Since we couldn't rent a car and we wanted to go up Hallasan, I proposed we get up at 6 am and get our butts up to a picturesque area and get to Seogwipo for lunch. The hike up was awesome! My friend was not prepared at all in her training pants and tennis shoes... It took about an hour for her to decide to buy those spike things you put on your shoes to stop from sliding. We took a lot of fun pictures so it was worth it. I wanted to go up to the top, but friend was a bit underdressed so I had to ditch that idea. I'm going up next time for sure! Anyway, we end up taking a taxi to Seogwipo where I met a friend of a friend who has a daughter in college. My friend was a bit uncomfortable even though she said she wasn't... But it ended up being amazing. The beginning conversations were awkward, but it soon blossomed past introductions to my life before Korea and traveling adventures around the country. After buying us lunch, we got a personal tour of Seogwipo and had a fantastic time! When it was getting dark, we were going to a guesthouse that I booked ahead of time, but ended up going to a place recommended by the man. Called Base Camp Guesthouse, it was a fantastic experience. We ended up eating fried chicken outside in a tent set up on the balcony and had a good social time while getting to know the owner and the owner's friend from Busan. Review on GH later... Our day was fun-filled and jam-packed. The best part was we got to meet some Jeju islanders. TBC...
