WILDFLOWER
Four brown beauties called together by one… and what they conjured was pure magic. Early morning Venice Beach. My makeup station was a platform in front of a building on Main Street. It was super hot out that day and I had to lug around my kit because I didn't know exactly how the looks would progress yet, and I really didn't want to leave anything in the car. But through the fire, sweating and sand in my kit ….emerges a Wildflower.
Creative Director for Beaumonde Society, Miss Jennifer Nnamani had a vision that was a tropical delight. It came across as alluring and fun to me, and with model/muse Lilian Uwanyuze and photographer Osose Oboh I knew that feeling would be captured easily.
Our first look was washes of berry on Lilian's lips an cheeks. I first prepped her face with moisturizer followed with a hydrating serum before applying cream foundation to lightly even out any discolorations. Next was a bright berry cream blush sheared out and a hint of plum gloss. I used the cream foundation as her eyeshadow color and a bit of cream black liner worked into her top lash line for more definition. Last, a few coats of black mascara.

Second look was a small bump up, enhancing Lilian's beautiful features a bit more. I added a tiny bit more cream blush and black eyeliner on her waterline. I deepened her eyes with a burgundy shadow, lipstick, and lip liner before pinning the flowers to the crown of her hair. Sidenote: These flowers were just picked by Jennifer as we were walking to the second location. A reminder to keep your eyes open to your environment and how it can work for you!! I feel these flowers really tied in this look perfectly!!

We all teleported to another time and space with look three and four. I layered a gold creme makeup over Lilian's eyelids and added a triangle on her forehead. I pushed a metallic gold powder over the creme and put a little down the bridge of her nose. It wasn't popping as much as I had envisioned so I used a highly reflective golden melon pigment on top of the gold powder I had already applied to Lili Ann's face. The lipstick changed to a rich bubblegum pink and I also lightly dusted the golden melon pigment to her cupids bow and cheekbones for added enhancement. The Birds of Paradise I attached were brought in By Jennifer and the scarf was my own.

A Happee View
For this set with Model Danielle Lo, I had to choose a dark lipstick to feature and show off her amazing smile! LA Photographer Jaime Chan was able to score a super cute Tee and Joggers from Happiness Brand for Danielle so she was indeed happy and comfy, which made for an easy shoot. Her look was relaxed, pretty and hip but very simple. I lined her entire mouth with NYX Slim Lip Pencil in Y2K and then applied AJ Crimson’s matte lipstick in No Explanation with a flat brush.
Dark lipsticks can give you a sharp look, insta-confidence, and can make your teeth look whiter too! Make no mistake, sometimes it can look crazy! Keep an eye out for lipstick on the teeth make sure to use liner to help keep it in place.
Not everyone can wear any ole dark shade. If your new to wearing darker shades try starting with a stain or a deeper gloss at first so you're not overwhelmed and can build it. You can also pick up shade of lipstick you wish you could wear and shear it out at first, building as you get used to it. Before you know it, you will be rocking the deepest of Burgundy’s and applying with great precision!

My kind of face charts!!
I go through tons images online and in magazines for my reference and compile them together to make my face charts. They are rarely modeled after one person.
After I’m done fussing and sketching... I get to create and enhance with makeup!! This process is a great way to work on skills and have fun on your own time.
Let's start out 2014 right.... with TATTOOS! Check out my latest video with friend and guest Orkhan Kiloğlu as he gets his New Years mark for his journey to Istanbul.

Ben Nye Banana Boat Ride
The more I get out and about in the beauty industry again, the more I am reminded of the rock I must have been under for bit while tattooing all those years. I always fancied myself pretty in the know with cosmetics.... and I knew about the magic of Ben Nye's Banana Powder... I learned of it's power back in 99 at The Studio Makeup Academy here in LA. But... for some weird cryptonic reason I had lost memory of it and not until recently have we been reunited.... o joyfull day!
To tell you all the truth, I can't believe I went that long without it! I didn't even know how much I missed it until I wore it for the first time again....my eyes a bit brighter and I didn't have that annoying creasing issue I had been having lately with my under eye concealer. In fact, I was set for the rest of the day. In fact, I haven't touched up under my eyes once since I started using it again.
It's super affordable... like $10 for a 1.5 oz. bottle if you don't have a pro discount. That's less expensive than a lot of drugstore loose powders and they probably don't hold a candle to the Banana Powder. It comes down to the packaging... not that sexy I know, but unless you plan on wearing the bottle around your neck no one will care except that you look fabulous sweetee! Oh yeah... I thought I heard they may be repackaging the bottle, so keep a look out.

Ben Nye Workshop @ Nigel's Beauty Emporium
I was stoked to get into the Ben Nye Workshop in time. I take advantage that I am so close to Nigel's Beauty Emporium and almost missed my opportunity to get into this room full of knowledge... but I made it. I heard there ended up being a waiting list and everything!
The workshop featured Debbie Muller, Brian Sipe and Dana Nye on Wednesday, November 20th. Every seat was filled and we began promptly at 11:15am. Ben Nye was super sweet and greeted everyone with a hello and a hand shake. Debbie's voice was cool and fun to listen to and she was sharing a bunch of information with all of us. So I paid close attention... more than I ever did in high school, that's for sure.
We even had special guest Brian Sipe come by in between Debbie's looks and show us quick special fx work that was way cool. He made that poor girl look tore up in no time!!
Back to Debbie and she is now taking the very natural look to more dramatic, but all with HD filming in mind when choosing her specific Ben Nye products to achieve the desired look.
Class was supposed to be only 2 hours... but I knew better than that. 3 1/2 hours later I emerged... a bit shakey from low blood sugar.... but not enough to keep me from redeeming my $45 admission fee in Ben Nye products first (plus my 20% artist discount). I grabbed a bottle of the famous Luxury Powder in Banana, Final Seal Matte Makeup Sealer, LiquiSet Waterproof Mixing Liquid, and Media Pro HD Eye Definer stack.
I had already used the Banana Powder before... I was shown The Banana Way back in 99 when I went to The Studio Makeup Academy, when it was on the lot of Gower Studios. It has been a hot minute since I've had it though... I had been so immersed with tattooing that some things just fell though the cracks. I know. Don't judge me.
The LiquiSet is awesome for changing a shadow to liner and setting brows.
I need the final seal for those hot and long music videos.... I need to keep that face in place!
And my new obsession.... The Media Pro HD Eye Definer stack. These are creamy and SUPER pigmented! You can easily line the eye or smudge it as a base for shadow. There are 5 colors in the stack: Black, Espresso, Aubergine, Taupe and Soft Grey. My new favorite find :)
I had a great experience and I can't hardly stand it until I can go to my next workshop and new makeup finds!!
xoxo
