my life right now is based around seeing halloween stuff in shops and getting excited because well samhain....and other shoppers giving me strange looks.
I LOVE HALLOWEEN even before paganism and witchcraft came into my life I loved HALLOWEEN!
Samhain.
The days are getting crisper and the nights are getting cooler, the leaves are changing colour, Autumn is here so that only means one thing, Samhain is on its way! And I can hardly wait! Now this depends who you ask within the pagan/witchy community but here in the rambling pagans world we believe that Samhain is the witches new year and if it is the only sabbat that you embrace Samhain should be it!
This is the sabbat that many of us pagans celebrate the cycle of life and death and call/welcome spirits and leave offerings to their ancestors. The veil to the other side is at its thinnest on Samhain night. If you do plan on contacting the other side during this time it is said to be easier, but remember to be respectful at all times, and if you do make contact thank the spirit or entity.
The other huge aspect of Samhain that in my opinion goes hand in hand with life and death is the end of the harvest, as most crops are coming to the end of the season.
While some people pagans or witches chose to have on their altar objects to honour the dead (items of loved ones, photos etc), some chose to show life and death with skulls or ghosts, grave rubbings, skeleton figures or even a sickle or scythe (if you have one handy…maybe a miniature Halloween one) on display. Years ago pagans and witches used the last of the harvest on display around the house and on the altar, baskets of apples, a pumpkin/squash or any other root vegetables. Use what you have, that’s what they did. If you don’t have an altar but have a dining room or coffee table, side board you pop a pumpkin or two on there. This time of the year shops have the Halloween displays in, so there is an abundance of pot/plastic pumpkins available (I even picked some up from poundland).
Today, all of my readings have indicated a major change/upheaval in my spiritual path. I am open to this, its time to cut away what doesn't work, and rearrange things to break up stagnancy.
