"Sherlock Holmes with a headline scandal, who would have thought."
Celia throws the paper back down onto the coffee table, laying out across her brother's sofa. Murder case yet unsolved screams out in bold black letters into the room. You could only just see the top of the woman's head in the photo, clearly blonde despite the black-and-white image. From the moment Celia heard the news she knew it would become an obsession for Sherlock. Personal connections will do that to a person. "You are close, this doesn't mean start from the beginning; it means take three steps back and try again."
She knows that if she was in his shoes, she would be the same. The Holmes' do not like to lose or be wrong. But it's easy to say these things, sound wise and patient.
"You know, when I go to Italy in the summer, I convince myself I could live like that forever. Sitting by the lake, no one knowing who I am or expecting something from me. Walk to the market, reading romantic fiction. Taking a lover who doesn't know anything but how to fuck me. And then on the second last day, I think-- if I had to live like this forever, I'd kill myself just for something interesting to do."
Her gaze moves from the ceiling, back to Sherlock. "This is the price for living an interesting life Sherlock, don't wish it away."
