Samifer!au - Grease Play
At the beginning of the year, Dean mockes Sam when he says he joined the theatre kids.
They are in highschool and the theatre club is doing a Grease play this year. Sam will be in charge of the lights and sounds, Anna will be the lead actress. Garth, a rather shy and weird guy, will be Danny. He is the leader of the group. To everybody’s surprise another new face shows up to sign in for the theatre’s crew: Lucifer, resident bad boy of the school. He needs extra credit to boost his grades, he says. Garth puts him in charge of the decors, painting the backgrounds and finding accessories for the show.
Garth invites all the cast and crew to his house to watch the movie and take ideas. They are all from different cliques and Garth hopes it will bring the team together. It works rather well and everybody has fun, laughing, singing along the movie songs and eating popcorn. It eventually becomes a monthly thing not a single membre of the team wants to miss.
And all along of the year all the teenagers in the cast and crew become close friends. To the point that one day, Garth is having trouble with someone at school and Lucifer’s bad boys randomly come to the rescue because the weird dude is one of their leader’s protégés. As thanks Garth gives Lucifer a bear hug in front of the whole school, and Lucifer freezes at first, because no one hugs the bad guy. But then he gets super clingy.
Dean is a little lost because, as one of the football team members, he is used to have success with the ladies, but this year he doesn’t know what is going on. It’s the theatre kids who steal all the light. And now he is known as Sam’s brother. It’s supposed to be the other way around. But eventually Sam presents Dean to the lead actress and theatre is suddenly way more fun for Dean. In no time, Dean gets super supportive of the play because, Anna is now his girlfriend.
During the rehearsals, everybody is singing along of course and it pretty fun. Until, for reasons, everybody agrees that Sam is the unofficial voice of Danny and Lucifer the unofficial Sandy. Of course everybody ends up shipping it, Lucifer first
Though, at one point of the year, Lucifer has to slow down with the preparations of the play and Garth comes to ask him what is going on. Lucifer explains that he needs more time to study because a teacher told him he has to be better or he won’t get his year. Sam proposes to help him study until Lucifer brings back a A+ test to a rehearsal to show to everybody. They all celebrate sincerely.
Sam finds an old car in Bobby’s salvage yard that would look good for their play. Bobby makes a very good price and the theatre club buys it for the decors. Lucifer comes to the salvage yard and asks if he can work on it here because it would be easier. On the weekends Lucifer comes to the salvage yard and basically cuts the car into pieces with a blowpipe while Sam gives him company. Bobby helps Lucifer from time to time but he is mostly surprised the kid can do all that work by himself. And he is not bad at it.
Lucifer makes the old car looks like a T-bird as much as he can and saves the other parts to clean them and includes them in the decor. His father, who hears about the play all the time but is a little lost about what is really happening in the real world, mixes up what Lucifer is doing at the salvage yard. And because Lucifer talks about a T-bird all the time, Chuck charges Bobby to find a vintage car to offer to his son for his birthday in reward for the good grades Lucifer works so hard to get this year particularly. Lucifer is a little surprised by the present but quickly becomes positively crazy about his new car. He brings the other theatre kids on rides, especially Sam who is the only one allowed to drive the car. Dean would like to too, but doesn’t dare to ask.
The premiere arrives and all the tickets for the play are sold. For the Born to Hand Jive scene, Garth had the idea to make the public participate by teaching them quickly how to do the moves to dane while staying seated. For that, the whole theatre team has to be dressed up, even the crew members who don’t show on stage for the rest of the play. Sam lights the full room so the whole cast and crew members can go all around in the public to dance. It’s a great success during the representation because people are going along.
Garth is an awesome dancer and a born star. Dean gets jealous when he kisses Anna on stage.
The show is a nice success (well, as far a highschool play can be) and at the very last representation, the whole cast and crew trick Sam and Lucifer to perform their unofficial duo of Summer Nights in front of the public as a special encore that makes everybody in the public have a good laugh.
Dean is very surprised to see Sam singing on stage. His little brother is not bad at all. But not as surprised as when he sees the shadow of a kiss between Lucifer and Sam at the end of the song when the curtains close. It’s Sam who kisses Lucifer in front of everyone and the whole cast and crew of the play applauses because they waited for this moment for a long time.
