New Wave Essentials: "Sample That!" by Bang Orchestra! (1986). If you were into the New Wave dance club scene in the mid-eighties, you might remember "Sample That!" by Bang Orchestra!. Even if you haven't heard it, you should give it a listen because it was such a staple of the '86 New Wave milieu. It's a wild little song, a twisty and windy fun house ride of a tune. Trashy. Loud. Vaguely erotic. Conjuring images of black light reflected on day-glo and tall-haired teens with lunatic dance moves. I can't say I love "Sample That!" by Bang Orchestra! (it's got "novelty tune" written all over it) but it's loads of fun and a real nostalgia trip.
